From the Principal

Providing a glimpse of what makes Lakeside College such a special community.

It goes without saying that sometimes we take things for granted and need to be reminded to step back, observe and consider just how fortunate we are. In the business of life within a school we sometimes forget or don’t consider the valuable learning experiences our students participate in on a daily basis. One of the great pleasures I have as Principal is to greet our students each morning as they enter the school. A quick “Hello, how are you?” or “How was your weekend?” is enough to spark an enthusiastic response from our students. I also ask them if they are looking forward to their day at school and this is met with a resounding, “Yes”.  As a principal, this is pure music to my ears and a testament to the great work all at Lakeside College do to ensure our students receive the very best care and attention they need to thrive and flourish in their learning.

Recently, we were asked to contribute an article that provided a spotlight on Lakeside College and it is with great pleasure that I present that to you below.

Welcome to 2024

As we enter in the new year at Lakeside College, it is with great joy that we extended a warm

welcome to our new students, staff and families at our Opening service. The beginning of 2024 marks the start of an exciting journey filled with endless possibilities and opportunities for growth.

Embracing New Faces:

We are delighted to welcome the following new staff members Ms Charlene Anita, Ms Aimee Ward, Ms Deb Coffey and Ms Carolyne Bennett who bring with them a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion for education. Their presence will undoubtedly enrich our community and contribute to the continued success of Lakeside College.

Expanding Horizons: New Outdoor Areas for Secondary Students

2024, Lakeside College unveiled new outdoor areas tailored specifically

for our secondary students. These spaces provide opportunities for relaxation, recreation and socialization, fostering a sense of connection and belonging among our students.

Investing in Wellbeing: Year 11 and 12 Retreats

As our Year 11 and 12 students prepare for the culmination of their academic journey, Lakeside College organised retreats focused on

wellbeing and personal growth. These retreats provided students with valuable time for reflection, self-discovery and bonding with their peers, equipping them with the tools they need to thrive in their final years of studies.

Building Bonds: Year 4 Adventure at Burnside

Our Year 4 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure to Burnside, where team bonding took center stage. Through shared experiences and outdoor activities, students forged lifelong memories and strengthened their friendships, laying the foundation for a supportive class group.

Empowering Student Leaders: Halogen Young Leaders Conference

Lakeside College student leaders had the privilege of participating in the Halogen Young Leaders Conference, where they engaged with renowned speakers in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for educational inspiration and personal growth. This experience empowered our student leaders to make a positive impact within our school and beyond.

As we look ahead to the rest of the year, Lakeside College is filled with anticipation for the adventures, achievements, and growth that lie ahead. Together, as a united community, we will continue to strive for excellence, curiosity, and empower each other to reach new heights.

Here’s to a remarkable year ahead at Lakeside College!

It is wonderful that we can celebrate our community in such a way. We also need to bear in mind however, that for some people, and this will include members of our community. Everyone experiences occasional feelings of loneliness, but for some people it is a chronically painful state of being. Human beings are made to be in relationship, but geographical distance, financial hurdles, family tensions and conflict can all contribute to ongoing feelings of isolation and loneliness for many people.  We should always remember that our God is a compassionate and faithful god who longs to comfort us in the midst of whatever loneliness we may feel. As the prophet Isaiah says in verse 41:10

Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
