Introducing Claire Eaton

Claire is a WA-based tour de force in the adolescent mindset and coaching space. Claire is in stratospheric demand on the speaking circuit and has published five books which address the transition from Primary to Secondary school, self-management skills in adolescents, how to make organisation your superpower and such like. You may remember that Claire was in Albany last year and I urged the GSG community to attend her presentation at Retravision Stadium.

I often find myself recommending Claire’s multifarious works (books, blog, webinars etc) to colleagues and families. Some of her blog titles include Calling teens out when they use personal putdowns, In times of fear and sadness, don’t rush to silver linings and Helping teens choose solutions over problems. Her website is below for your convenience and erudition.

Counselling Support

The usual pathway to accessing counselling support at school with me is via communication with one of the child’s pastoral team – homeroom teacher, Head of  Secondary or Primary School or Head of House (day and/or boarding). Other options include direct contact with me and self-referral for young people who have had their 16th birthday.

For any families whose young people I supported in Term Four, and who request for counselling support to continue, please simply send me an email stating this. I will call you for any updates in the world of the young person prior to recommencement of counselling in 2024. This play-it-forward protocol will only last until mid-term, after which time a new referral will need to be activated.

Glimmer Gleaning and Awe Hunting …

Today’s Daily Calm theme (from the Calm app) is Ullassa which is a Sanskrit term that describes the "feelings of pleasantness associated with natural beauty." This beautiful meditation gently echoes the value of stopping and just noticing, using light curiosity and gradually engaging with your senses. The benefits of such practices have been written of here previously – but suffice it to say, gifting yourself a soothing brain break has healthy (physical and emotional) consequences.

Some luscious resets I’d like to share …

  • A few minutes ago when I closed my eyes in the doorway of the Watami Building to inhale the intoxicating aroma of … rain … so welcome …
  • When hiking at Mt Martin recently, noticing the intricate stem and leaf architecture of my favourite wildflower, the Dryandra …
  • Savouring the first mouthful of a favourite meal … the green seafood curry last night freighted with popping flavours …

Yours in maintaining mental fitness,

Ms Sheryl Moncur | School Counsellor and Teacher
