International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

In 2022, the first cohort of Aberfoyle Park High School students began the newly authorised International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Over the next two years, these students pursued interests across a range of academic disciplines alongside extra-curricular activities designed to develop their character.

The ‘student-led’ nature of the IBDP allowed students to design their own investigation for their major school assessment. Two successful students in the program include Noah Rose’ Meyer, who chose to investigate how human activity impacts national parks and consequently affect biodiversity, and Xander Cubbin, who explored the implications of soil types on the Murray Darling Basin. Both students developed a passion for the environment during their two years studying the IB subject ‘Environmental Systems and Societies’ with Rachelle DeFazio, one of the school’s IB teachers. As a result of their commitment and enthusiasm, both Noah and Xander were able to achieve impressive results for the subject.

In November of 2023, our students sat the school’s first IBDP examination sessions, with exams running for Chemistry and Environmental Systems and Societies. When results were released in early January, the school were thrilled to find that all students achieved their predicted examination scores and received ATARs to support their future ambitions.

The IBDP provides unique opportunities for year 11 and 12 students to pursue interests across a range of subjects, while developing their own sense of self and society in order to equip globally minded citizens who are ready to tackle to the challenges of their future.
