Spotlight on Learning - Room 3

About the Mathematicians of Room 3!

Welcome back to another exciting edition of our Primary School Newsletter! We are already halfway through Term 1 and time is flying! A lot of learning has happened and is underway, but I wanted to share some of our Math work in Room 3! We are just about to finish skip counting as our first maths topic of the year. Everyone has had great fun exploring this while also diving into the wonderful world of group work. It teaches students so much more than numbers, but also building strong values like integrity, courage, and harmony – Marion Primary School values!

Math Adventures Galore!

Imagine this: a classroom buzzing with excitement, colourful counters clicking, and little minds working together to crack the skip counting puzzle, maze, or grouping pattern. Well that's what has been happening during our math group work sessions! Year 1 and 2 students team up, armed with enthusiasm, ready to tackle skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s in multiple ways – singing, visualising or hands-on experiences.

Integrity: Doing the Right Thing

Math group work isn't just about finding the right answer; it's about the journey we take to get there. Through collaboration and discussion, our students learn the importance of integrity. They understand that it is about working honestly and supporting each other along the way. Whether they are figuring out skip counting and its patterns, they do it with integrity, making sure every voice is heard and every idea is respected.

Courage: Taking Math Risks

In the world of math's, taking risks is a must! Our young mathematicians embrace challenges with courage, knowing that mistakes are just stepping stones to success. During group work, they bravely share their ideas, even if they're unsure. They learn that it's okay to make mistakes because that's how we learn and grow.

Harmony: Math Harmony in Action

Ever seen a symphony orchestra in action? Well, our math group work is just like that – a harmonious blend of different talents and perspectives coming together working on something collaboratively. In Room 3, students work with each other's ideas and they learn from one another.

Join the Math Party!

So, there you have it – math group work isn't just about numbers; it's about instilling our school values that will shape our students into confident and compassionate individuals. With integrity, courage, and harmony as their compass, our Year 1 and 2 mathematicians are ready to take on the next math challenge that comes their way!
