Buckley House Leadership

Buckley House Leadership

Christina Siakou, Year 6

In starting our final year at primary school, the Year 6 students have been heavily focusing on leadership, and how to be an effective leader.

In doing this, we are able to lead our school and make it the best it can be. There are many ways that we have been putting our skills into practice. Just a few weeks ago we went on our first excursion, which was conveniently a leadership conference. This was a great opportunity for us to meet with other schools and enhance our understanding on what a leader really is.

We have also incorporated this topic into our inquiry unit, where we zoom in and study inspiring leaders of the past.

Global captain, Siena Briganti is 'excited to help the school with sustainability and global awareness to lead a bright future for Buckley House'. This explores her role as a captain and shows that that being an effective leader is tricky and requires hard work.

Along with this, many Year 6 students have been handed a major role such as School Captain, Global Captain and House Captain. Others have earned a specialist role such as Sport Captain and French captain. All in all, we aim for our final year in primary school to be the most enjoyable time possible.

Global Community

Siena Briganti, Buckley House Global Leader

At Buckley House the global community is growing significantly, with a very successful program in place for all junior students of the school. The global leaders program runs from Year 1 to Year 5 with our Global Captains in Year 6 running the group, leading all events and workshops.

This program educates global awareness and leadership skills amongst the younger student leaders. The students are nominated by their teachers and classmates to be their classes global representatives and the global leaders are then awarded a badge in an all school assembly.

After this assembly the selected global leaders meet up with their global captains once a week during lunchtime to discuss their goals and hopes for the year ahead and what we can do to help different countries and people in need. Doing this program helps our school become a better place and environment for everyone.

Understanding our role as individuals is so important which is why it’s a key group within Buckley House.

Year 6 Buddies

Sophie Tan, Year 6

This year, the Year 6 students have already begun meeting and having fun with their buddies.

We first had a little play with one of the Foundation classes on the playground where we got to know Mr Loft's students. It was fun and everybody had enjoyed being altogether.

After that, we officially met our buddies and found out who they were and all about them. They then came up to the Year 6 classroom and we all played a game to get to know our buddies better. After that, they made a poster with a photo of the Year 6 students and their buddies together and surrounded it with things that they loved. The posters made everyone smile so much, we decided to hang them up in the classroom.

Meeting our buddies was so much fun and we are all excited to spent time with the Foundation students again!

Buckley House’s Thriving eSports Program Takes Off!

Sascha Ducquet

Buckley House is gearing up to commence an extremely popular eSports program on 26 February, featuring a group of engaging and fun games including Just Dance 24, Rocket League, Mario Kart, Crash Team Racing, and Minecraft.

This program was introduced in 2020 and has been increasingly growing in popularity among students because of its achieving success. But that’s not all! Some of things I am personally looking forward to is the Just Dance 24 competition, scheduled for 8 March. This tournament promises to be an exhilarating, exciting, and fun event.

In August, we have the GG (Girl Gamer) Squad Just Dance competition. It’s going to be a fierce tournament, and I know all of us can’t wait to see who comes out on the top! Keep an eye out for further developments in the world of esports at Buckley House!
