Leadership Report
As the calendar winds down, things at Magill seem to only be ramping up. With holidays squarely in sight, we’re still making the most of every day here at our wonderfully busy school. With plenty of highlights still on the 2024 calendar, I’m looking forward to soaking up every moment as we close out the year on a high note.
Last week, one of those highlights was our Year 3-5 students making a splash at swimming lessons, showing off their enthusiasm and determination in the pool. It’s always a highlight to see their confidence grow in such an important life skill. Thank you to all the parents for your support in coordinating swimming week, from the slightly earlier starts, to the extra packing and washing during the week. Our teachers also did a wonderful job of keeping everything running smoothly, from managing timetable complexities, to ensuring every student had what they needed and felt comfortable for a successful week.
Since our last newsletter, there’s been plenty more; from the Year 6 camp at Roonka, to the Bugs and Slugs incursion and Tri Skills sessions for some of our junior primary students, Magillians across the school have been exploring, learning, and challenging themselves in new ways. We also welcomed some of our 2025 Reception students for their first transition visit, giving them a fun glimpse of their journey ahead, and saw our Year 6 leaders braved the ice at the Ice Arena for Leaders’ Day. Creativity and problem-solving have also been front and center, with a maths incursion for our Year 6s as well as the Goo Roo Animation workshop sparking imaginations. And all of this is on top of the incredible literacy, numeracy, and learning happening in classrooms every day. Like I said, it's been busy.
After my extensive professional research trip through most of Term 3, scouting educational facilities in Europe, (OK, fine, it was a holiday), I can genuinely say it’s great to be back and part of all this action again. With my return, comes the return of Inside Magill, so make sure to check out Term 4’s episode (that will be released in Week 9). It will feature our regular segments, but also some highlights and updates from last term, including Sports Day footage, some school upgrades, and the Instrumental Music concert. It will also feature a closer look at our brand new playground. Also, keep an eye out for the latest episode of Positron vs Negatron coming shortly, where we look at the role of important adults in our lives, particularly at school.
Lastly, I want to give a huge personal thank you to everyone who participated in my Year 4 to 6 writing competition this year. In Term 4, the challenge set was another edition of ‘scenes from a movie’, where each participating year level are given a movie scene to write about, as if it were a chapter in a novel. I’m thrilled to announce our winners for Term 4. Congratulations to Freya Raymon, Medhansh Naidu, and India Mollison! The growth and creativity we’ve seen from all participants has been incredible, and I couldn’t love running this competition more than I do.
With each passing challenge, it seems to get harder and harder to judge, and that’s thanks to the amazing talent and enthusiasm of our students. To read the winning entries, including the brief outline and the scenes each year level were given, scroll down!

As we charge ahead into the final weeks of the year, I can’t wait to see what more our community will achieve!
