What's Happening in Grade 3

Literacy:

This term, our classes have been diving into the world of response texts!  We've explored a wide range of exciting materials, from restaurant reviews and Milky Bar Kit Kats to Tripadvisor feedback on A Maze'n Things Holiday Park. We've even looked at movie, book, and game reviews to understand the power of words in shaping opinions.

Along the way, we’ve been learning about important text features, such as judgment words, that help readers decide whether they agree with the review or not. Each student has had the chance to write their own response texts to share their thoughts and opinions.

But that's not all! We’re gearing up for some hands-on fun with the Grade 3 Lego Masters challenge, where we'll build our own Lego creations! It’s going to be a busy and creative time ahead as we combine our new writing skills with our love for building!

Numeracy:

Students have been exploring different strategies to solve multiplication and division problems, focusing on the connections between the two operations. They also created a fraction toolkit to model and represent equivalent fractions. In addition, they've been using both informal and formal units to measure the area of various shapes. As part of a hands-on project, students designed their own robots and calculated the area of each part. Looking ahead, students will start conducting simple chance experiments and exploring the language of probability. They will also investigate the features of 3D shapes, as well as measure, compare, and order their capacities.

Future Focussed Learning:

Exploring the World of Living and Non-Living Things!

This term, our students have been excited to explore the fascinating world of Biological Science, focusing on living and non-living things! Through hands-on activities, they've been learning how to  group living things based on observable features—such as body covering, (fur, feathers and scales) and body features( beaks and gills)—and identifying the unique characteristics that make them come to life.

Our investigations have gone even deeper as we explore the relationships between living things. Students are discovering how these connections—whether through food chains or collaboration—help organisms survive and thrive in their environments.

It’s been a wonderful journey of scientific discovery, and we can’t wait to see how these budding scientists continue to make sense of the world around them!

Sport:

Through a variety of team games and sports, students have been practicing their throwing and dodging skills and have recently begun practicing their coordination and balance through the use of elastics.
