Year 3 Melbourne Zoo excursion

Year 3 enjoyed beautiful sunshine while visiting the Melbourne Zoo on Monday 11th November. Year 3 visited the Melbourne Zoo to develop their understanding of the dependency between living things and their environments. This will consolidate their previous learning in our Inquiry topic this term, along with providing students the skills to incorporate sustainable practices in their own lives that will benefit our world and diminish the impact of human effects.

Mentor Program at Wayi School

“On November 7th, a group of four Year 8 students from MRC kicked off an exciting new Mentor Program at Wayi School, working with two classes of Grade 4 students. This program, set to run over the next four weeks, was thoughtfully planned by the Year 8 students with a focus on building strong connections with the broader community. During the first session, MRC students led engaging activities, demonstrating kindness, patience, and genuine enthusiasm in their interactions with the younger students. The session was a success, with both MRC and Wayi students thoroughly enjoying the experience and looking forward to the upcoming weeks together.”

Our Year 9 students showcased their culinary talents today by preparing mouthwatering calzones! Guided by their enthusiasm and creativity in the kitchen, they worked together to craft each calzone from scratch, filling them with a delicious variety of ingredients. The results were impressive, with perfectly baked calzones that looked as fantastic as they tasted.

Congratulations to Year 9 for their dedication and teamwork in the kitchen! It’s wonderful to see their confidence and skills growing with each cooking session. Well done!

Year 11 Art Making and Exhibiting

Over this year, our Art Making and Exhibiting year 11 classes have covered a range of artforms using mostly traditional media including charcoal, greylead, pastel, clay, watercolour, acrylic and oil paint. Here are some action shots of them while they work on their final artworks for this year.

Year 11 Art Making and Exhibiting

This week, our Year 11 students had an exciting experience in the art room: using oil paint for the very first time!

Students were introduced to blending, layering, and texturing methods unique to oil paints. They learned to achieve soft gradients, experiment with thick and thin layers, and understand how oil paint allows for intricate details and vibrant color.

Disability Inclusion - Wheeltalk

Mount Ridley's ESP students recently participated in a wheelchair basketball event, which was met with tremendous enthusiasm and engagement. Students quickly grasped the key skills involved and competed in a spirited basketball match. This experience provided an invaluable opportunity to build confidence and foster connections among peers, making it an inspiring and empowering activity for all participants. Beyond the physical and competitive aspects, students gained a deeper understanding of inclusion and the importance of gratitude, learning not to take life's opportunities for granted.

MRC- Bunnings BBQ

On Sunday, November 10th, the MRC community hosted a vibrant Bunnings BBQ fundraiser to support the Under 15 girls’ basketball team as they prepare for the 2024 Australian Schools Basketball Championships on the Gold Coast.

This talented group of young athletes, who earned the state title in 2023, now has their sights set on the national stage.

The fundraiser was a tremendous success, thanks to the dedication of MRC staff members and the students as well as the generosity of the Craigieburn community. With every sausage sold, we were able to support these young champions pursue their dreams, and the turnout was truly heart warming.

The team is excited and motivated to represent the college and showcase their skills on a national level. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported the event and contributed to making this experience possible for the girls. A big thank you to Bunnings and our local community for rallying behind us, your support means the world to these students!

Lunch Time Activity - Philosophy Club

This term, students have been eagerly participating in our Lunchtime Philosophy Club! Every week, a group of curious thinkers gathers to explore thought-provoking questions and engage in deep discussions about life, ethics, and the world around us.

The club offers a fantastic opportunity for students to expand their minds, share ideas, and build confidence in expressing their views. We’re thrilled to see such enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity- keep up the great discussions, Philosophy Club!
