Head of Primary
As we approach the close of another school year, I want to take a moment to thank each of you—our incredible parents and College community—for your unwavering partnership and collaboration. This has been a memorable and exciting year, one filled with opportunities for our children to thrive academically, socially, and spiritually. Your dedication and support have played an invaluable role in their success.
To our students, I want to acknowledge your hard work and perseverance. You have embraced the many opportunities presented to you, faced challenges with courage, and celebrated countless triumphs along the way. I am incredibly proud of each of you and the growth you have shown this year.
I also extend heartfelt thanks to our outstanding teachers. They consistently go above and beyond, dedicating their time, energy, and care to meet the unique needs of each child. Whether it’s late nights spent preparing lessons or weekends devoted to ensuring student success, their unwavering commitment makes a profound difference in the lives of our students.
To our parent volunteers and carers, your generosity in giving your time and attention is truly appreciated. Whether supporting camps, excursions, or helping students develop their reading and learning skills, your faithfulness to serve strengthens our community. Our students continue to thrive because of your dedication, and we are deeply grateful for all you do.
On a personal note, thank you for welcoming me so warmly in my first year at Bayside Christian College. Your kindness, encouragement, and support have made me feel truly blessed to be part of this community. It has been a joy to witness the growth and transformation that has taken place this year, and I look forward with expectant hope to what lies ahead in 2025.
As we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, I wish you a holy and blessed Christmas. May the joy and peace that only Jesus Christ can bring fill your hearts and homes this season. You remain in my prayers, and I look forward to the wonderful surprises God has in store for us in the coming year.
Blessings,

Music Showcase Night
On Wednesday 27 November was the biannual 'Music Showcase Evening', where students were able to share what musical work they have been learning this semester with their family and friends. There were performances on guitar, keyboard, saxophone, flute, dance and voice. It was another amazing pair of evenings which again showcased the musical talent of our upcoming generation of musicians, and the effort which they had all put into preparing their performances.
Thanks are due again to our amazing instrumental teachers, Emma Rogers (piano and woodwind), Elizabeth Mallen (piano), Jacob Mahoney (guitar), Mark Berry (guitar), Rupert Balint-Smith (strings) and Frankie Wu (drums) for all the work they have done with the students this year.
This evening also couldn't have run without the help of Tim Mann in organising the sound system, as well as all the volunteers who pitched in to help. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to making these concerts such a success!

A Visit from Senior Sergeant Tomlinson: A Lesson in Community Safety for Our Prep Students
On Thursday 5 December, we were delighted to welcome Senior Sergeant Tomlinson to our school, where he spent time with our Prep students, offering them an insightful look into the important work of the police. Throughout his visit, Senior Sergeant Tomlinson shared valuable knowledge about the various aspects of police work, emphasizing the vital role the police play in keeping our community safe.
One of the key messages he imparted was the importance of knowing who to turn to in times of need. He encouraged the students to always seek help from the police if they ever find themselves lost. Senior Sergeant Tomlinson also reminded us of some essential safety tips, including road safety, the importance of being cautious around strangers, and the need to remember our home address in case of emergencies.
The students were then given the exciting opportunity to try on some real police gear, such as hats, helmets, vests, and jumpers. This hands-on experience allowed them to feel more connected to the equipment that officers wear daily. Senior Sergeant Tomlinson also took the time to show the students the essential tools he carries as part of his job, explaining the purpose of each item with great clarity.
Our Prep students were not only attentive but also asked thoughtful questions, demonstrating their growing understanding of how police officers contribute to the safety and wellbeing of our community. After the informative session, the students were taken to the car park for a close-up look at a police car.
The excitement was palpable as they listened to the siren and watched the flashing lights in action. Senior Sergeant Tomlinson explained when and why the lights and sirens are used, further enriching the students' understanding of police operations. Each child then had the chance to sit inside the police car, which was a thrilling experience for everyone.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Senior Sergeant Tomlinson for taking the time to visit and share his expertise with our Prep students. His visit not only deepened their appreciation for the work of our police force but also reinforced important lessons about safety and community. We are grateful for his dedication to educating and inspiring our young learners.

Years 1/2: Exploring Houses Around the World
This term, Years 1/2 students have been exploring houses from around the world, focusing on Indonesian homes. They’ve been learning about parts of a house and using numbers and colors to describe what they see. Ask them about their favorite house design—they may even share some Indonesian words with you!
Year 3/4: Discovering Schools and Uniforms
Year 3/4 students have been investigating schools in Indonesia, including the unique uniforms worn by students. They’ve even tried dressing up in traditional Indonesian school attire! This fun activity has helped them learn about cultural diversity and everyday life in Indonesia.
Year 5/6: Exploring Indonesian Canteen Foods
Year 5/6 students have been diving into the flavors of Indonesian school canteens. They learned about popular dishes, made traditional and modern versions of es serut (shaved ice), and even opened a market stall! Their efforts raised $70, which will be donated to an Indonesian school to buy books. What a meaningful and delicious way to learn about culture!

Years 5/6 Automata
This term, our Year 5/6 students have been hard at work designing and building their very own automata projects. Using the design process, they transformed ideas into reality, crafting moving models that showcased their creativity and problem-solving skills.
After weeks of measuring, cutting, assembling, and tweaking, the students proudly shared their automata with their parents during a special presentation. The display was a true celebration of their efforts, with parents and teachers alike amazed by the innovation and determination on show. Congratulations to our budding designers and engineers for a fantastic achievement!
