As we wrap up 2024, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all our staff, students, and families for making this year such a memorable and successful one. Your ongoing support and commitment have been instrumental in fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. Together, we've navigated challenges, celebrated achievements, and built a vibrant Junior School community.
The final weeks of Term 4 have been bustling with excitement and energy!
On the 28th November, we celebrated our Junior School Celebration Day with Year 7s and 8s. It was a fantastic day filled with laughter and connection. Students started with fun wellbeing, sport activities and a petting zoo before heading off to two exciting options: trampoline and laser tag adventures at Gravity Zone or a relaxing movie day at school with cinema-like snacks. It was a well-deserved break for our students after a year of hard work and growth.
We’ve also almost completed the HeadStart program, where our Year 7 students stepped into their Year 8 classes, and Year 8s began their Year 9 journey. It’s been inspiring to see how well they’ve adapted to their new routines and challenges, setting a strong foundation for 2025.
Lastly, we welcomed our new Year 7 cohort during Orientation Day on the 10th of December. It was wonderful to meet our future students and see their enthusiasm for starting this exciting chapter at Westall. Their curiosity and excitement have energised us for the year ahead!
As we prepare for the break, I encourage families to support their children in maintaining positive habits so their return to school in 2025 is a seamless and easy-going one! Here are a few recommendations:
Unstructured time and time away from electronic devices is good for young minds. Establishing consistent bedtimes and routines helps students’ recharge and be ready for each day.
Regular physical activity improves mood, concentration, and energy levels. Spending time outdoors is also a great way to disconnect from technology and enjoy family time.
Even light academic engagement over the holidays keeps students' skills sharp and reduces the adjustment period when school resumes. It also fosters independence and responsibility. Encourage your child to seek out some work for the holidays from their classroom teachers.
Look after yourself and take time out to relax, even if it’s half an hour whilst you have a cuppa and read a book. Remember, happy and relaxed parents make for happy children!
By incorporating these practices into daily routines, families can ensure students are well-prepared to start the new school year with confidence and enthusiasm. More tips and ideas can be found on https://www.parentline.org.au/10-tips-for-surviving-school-holidays/
The first day of school is Wednesday, 29th January 2025. We’ll be emphasising our Junior School priorities of organisation, punctuality, and care for learning. Please ensure students are prepared with all necessary materials, ready to start the year strong – including purchasing their digital textbooks, getting laptops ready, and ensuring they have all the required uniform.
Congratulations to our 2025 Junior School leaders:
We are confident they will lead with enthusiasm and dedication, as they already have with their incredible speeches and assistance during our successful Orientation Day!
It’s been a privilege to work with such a supportive and engaged community this year. The achievements of 2024 wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible students, staff, and families. Thank you for your contributions and care throughout the year. I look forward to seeing what we’ll accomplish together in 2025! Have an incredible festive season and wonderful holiday break!
Warm regards,
