Assistant Principal (Years 7/8) Report

Ms Alice Paget

Report from Assistant Principal Alice Paget

 Dear Westall SC community,

Well, Term 4 has flown by and we are just starting to see some lovely warmer weather creeping in.

I would like to highlight some of the important work that has been happening in our new Brain Care subject this Semester, in Year 7 and 8. Students have engaged in weekly lessons and activities around the key principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Literacy to build resilience. The Resilience Project is an evidenced based program that aims to support mental health in the classroom and family home. This is done through building knowledge, skills and capabilities in 3 key pillars that have been proven to cultivate positive emotion (Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness).

There is a great opportunity for you to reinforce these habits over the holiday period. Perhaps you could ask your child or young person a few prompts each week:

  • What has been your biggest achievement at school this year?
  • What are you grateful for today?
  • What made you smile today?
  • What is your favourite mindfulness activity?
  • When do you feel your happiest? Where are you? Why do you feel your happiest?

Sub-school and School Improvement Team for 2025:

I would like to welcome some new members to our sub-school roles and leadership position for next year.  I have summarised the Coordinators and other key contacts at the school below for your perusal.

I hope you have a great end to the Term, as it starts to wind down, and a lovely break over the holidays!

I wish you all a lovely break over the Summer period and look forward to welcoming the new Year 7s to the College in 2025.

Take care,

Alice Paget
