Performing Arts
We have some Drama performances coming up that we would like to inform you about.
Our Year 10 Drama class will be performing their ensembles, ‘A Material World’, on Wednesday 15th May at 6pm in the Robinson Centre Theatre.
Year 11 Drama are performing their ensembles, ‘It’s a Circus’, on Thursday 16th May at 6pm in the Robinson Centre Theatre.
Year 12 Drama are performing their ensembles, ‘Blast the Cannon’, on Thursday 23rd May at 6pm in the Robinson Centre Theatre.
On Monday the 22nd April, Year 12 Drama students travelled to Melbourne to see the Top Class Drama concert. This concert consists of A+ student work from the 2023 exam season. Our Year 12's were inspired by the ingenuity and high energy of the performances.
Some stand out favourites were:
- An interpretation of 'Dennis Denuto' (Lawyer from the cult classic 'The Castle') fighting against a new casino development at Bonney Doon
- A 'Backstage Crew Member' that used the music theatre stylings of 'Hamilton' to narrate their piece
- A lively Court Jester auditioning contestants for 'Tudor Wants a Wife' based on the Musical 'Six'
Students were able to compare these works to what they saw their Year 12 counterparts create last year (in some cases preferring our own students interpretations 🙂). We discussed how we believed these pupils were successful. The class are now using their newfound understandings of performance skills, applying them to the development of their ensemble work.
Save the date for the 2024 musical 'Matilda Jr.' we will be presenting this in the last week of July, Thursday 25th, Friday 26th, Saturday 27th.
Rehearsals are progressing well and excitingly we've seen tubs of costumes arriving last week.
