Kitchen Garden

3S & 3L

3S celebrated the completion of their Kitchen Garden Program with a cooking session, preparing fresh and seasonal produce, to create a 3 course meal.

They prepared and cooked parts of the menu in small groups, before coming together to set up a dining space where they got to try and taste their cooking.

For this cooking session, the students chose cheesy herb and garlic bread, pumpkin soup, vegetable spaghetti bolognese and lemon and poppyseed cupcake with cream cheese icing.

Thank you to all of our wonderful helpers who came along to assist, your support allows for greater learning opportunities for the students.

                                                                                    3L

This week, in kitchen garden, 3L enjoyed a beautiful Autumn afternoon working together, completing lots of different garden activities.

The Grapes worked with Allesha, raking up the rotted chip mulch on the garden paths. It was a great way to teach the students to safely use different types of rakes. We use the rotted mulch to top dress garden beds and then we refresh the paths with new mulch. It’s a cycle that we work on every Autumn.

The Blueberries worked with Deb, planting potatoes in the ‘PREP Patch’ and collecting marigold seeds. Potatoes take about 90 days to grow, so there’s a bit of waiting until mid term 3.

The Oranges got their creative minds flowing and continued painting the tablecloth. The white gaps are slowly being filled with beautiful garden and kitchen themed art. Thanks Di and Bec for helping with this activity.

The Pears worked with Alana, planting herbs and two rows of carrot seed.

Peta worked with the Apples, ‘hilling up’ the cauliflower and broccoli plants with well decomposed compost. These plants are heavy feeders or hungry, so we regularly feed them with compost or liquid seaweed.

We have an Instagram page to share the journey of the kitchen garden so please feel free to follow along @weps_kitchengarden.
