Attendance and Lateness: A Friendly Reminder

We all have those mornings when things don't quite go as planned, and our children end up being late to school. It happens! Occasional lateness has little impact on our children's learning; in fact, it can teach them valuable lessons about resilience and adaptability. What does significantly affect their learning and ability to engage in school is consistent or frequent lateness.

Our school gates open at 8:30 am, with classes commencing at 8:45 am. At 8:45am, students participate in a 'morning routine', where they receive important messages, connect with peers, and prepare for a day of learning ahead. The infographic below illustrates just how much learning time is lost due to late arrivals.

So, how can parents and carers support?

  • Establish a consistent daily routine that supports the importance of school attendance. Ensure your child gets adequate rest, enjoys a nutritious breakfast, and is mentally prepared for the school day. Remember, our breakfast club is available every day to all students between 8:30 am and 8:45 am.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with the school. Promptly addressing any concerns that arise can help prevent attendance issues from escalating.
  • Foster a positive outlook towards school by highlighting its exciting aspects to your child. Encourage them to view each day as an opportunity for growth and discovery.
  • Recognise and celebrate your child's achievements, no matter how small. Positive feedback can inspire them to prioritise punctuality and engage more actively in their learning.
  • Whenever possible, schedule appointments outside of school hours to minimise disruptions.
  •  Utilise our Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) program between 7:00 am and 8:30 am to streamline your family's morning routine. A friendly reminder that students should be booked into Before School Care if they are arriving at school before 8:30am.

Welcome Ms Jen!

Hello! My name is Ms. Jennifer McLarney (Ms. Jen) and I am so excited to begin teaching Year 5/6 in Y7 at Clovelly Park Primary School. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. This is my 22nd year of teaching, however it is my first year teaching in Australia! I am originally from Michigan, in the USA. I have a bachelor's degree in (primary) education from Central Michigan University with additional endorsements in literacy. I have also earned my master’s degree in (middle level) education from Saginaw Valley State University. Most recently I was a Year 3 teacher at Belle River Elementary.

I truly love working with children and especially enjoy teaching science, maths and reading. I respect the work that Ms. Alanah has started, and I look forward to continuing the academic and social learning goals for the students in Y7 this year. I feel that it is very important to work together as a classroom family (and school community). We will be spending a lot of time together so it’s important to treat each other with respect, kindness and compassion. I know that each student has a different brain which means we all think and learn differently. It is my job as the teacher to help students to grow as a learner and as a person of good character. When I am not at school, I enjoy hiking, baking and spending time at the beach with my husband and 2 children. We also love exploring South Australia and learning more about this lovely country.  I look forward to completing the year with the students in Y7.

Mother's Day Stall

Students had an exciting time picking out presents for their mum/carer at our Mothers' Day Stall.  Many thanks to all the volunteers, students and staff who helped to make this day so special!

We also held a Mother's Day Raffle with four prizes won by delighted students.

The lucky winners were Matteo (G3), Aziz (G1), Zeph (R5) and Farshad (Y1).
