Grade 5 - 6

Reading

Students have been delving into the fascinating world of literature with Jon Scieszka's "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs." As part of our exploration, students have been analysing the author's purpose, summarising key events, and expanding their vocabulary with tier 2 and 3 words. Additionally, we've been examining the story from the wolf's perspective, encouraging critical thinking among readers.

Writing

Our focus in writing has been on persuasive texts, with a particular emphasis on the PEEL paragraph structure. Students have been refining their abilities to create persuasive arguments supported by evidence and persuasive language. They’ve engaged in a variety of writing activities to effectively express their opinions and viewpoints. We are looking forward to the start of our learning on debating, where students will have the opportunity to put their persuasive writing skills into practice.

Maths

In mathematics, students have been deepening their understanding of length, area and perimeter, using appropriate units of measurement and solving real-world problems. They have been applying their knowledge to practical scenarios, developing their problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning.

ANZAC Day

As we commemorate ANZAC Day, students have had the opportunity to learn about its significance and the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women. They have explored the history of ANZAC Day, delving into the experiences of soldiers in the trenches during the Great War. Additionally, students have gained an understanding of why the "Last Post" is played at commemoration services, reflecting on the solemnity of the occasion.
