Grade 4
Literacy
Literacy this week has seen the students looking at procedural texts. They have been reading a mentor text called “How to teach a Slug to read” with this text, they are learning to write a procedure, inference, and questioning.
They have also learned how to write a Haiku, which is a Japanese-style poem that has a specific way it is written. They needed to write 3 lines with a total of 17 syllables in the entire piece. Below are some examples of these poems.
Maths
In Grade 4 this week, our students have been diving into the fascinating world of time! From mastering the basics of reading analog clocks to understanding digital time, they've been busy learning about 'o'clock', 'half past', 'quarter to', and 'quarter past'. With hands-on activities and engaging exercises, they're well on their way to becoming time-telling experts!
Integrated
We are studying Geography this term. We have started looking at the fascinating world of climate zones, discovering the diverse climates that exist across the globe. We learned about the main climate zones in the world - the tropical zone, characterised by warm temperatures and lush vegetation, the temperate zone, known for its moderate temperatures and distinct seasons and the polar zone, situated near the North and South Poles, where frigid temperatures and icy landscapes dominate.
Respectful Relationships
In our exploration of positive relationships, students delved into the book "How Full Is Your Bucket?" by Mary Reckmeyer and Tom Rath. The book introduces the concept of an invisible bucket and how every interaction, no matter how small, impacts the emotional state of both themselves and others. When our bucket is full, we feel great, but when it's empty, we feel awful. We brainstormed various ways to fill people's buckets and realised that when we are kind and helpful to others, we also fill out own. We now have a class bucket and will be working hard to fill it every single day!
