Music students commemorating ANZAC Day
Music students contributed live music to ANZAC day commemorations in Geelong on the 25th of April.
Rabhin O’Keife performed The Last Post and Emily Flynn sang a vocal item with great professionalism at Anam Cara House, and Chris McKenzie performed the Last Post at our school ANZAC assembly, which included a musical item by our Brass Ensemble. Many thanks to our students for enhancing these ceremonies with music.
Last weekend Jazz Syndicate, Mrs Moffatt and Ms Humphrey drove to South Australia to perform in the national stage band competition at Generations in Jazz. They performed a fabulous set and received some great feedback on how to improve their performance skills. We saw Kate Ceberano, Budjerah, the Hot Potato Band and many other fine musicians at the concerts each night and were blown away by the talent of the students we heard from other schools from across the country. Our students were a delight to take on this trip, embracing all activities with enthusiasm, and making sure everyone was included and having a great time. We’re already talking about ‘next time’!

Combined Bands Day Thursday 16th May
BHS is hosting the annual combined Bands Day on Thursday 16th May, and we are seeking donations of cakes/slices to help us feed the 200+ students and teachers attending the event! If you are able to donate a batch of sweet treats (no nuts or cream), or are available to help with serving or cooking the BBQ, please contact Amanda Linton on Amanda.linton@education.vic.gov.au and let her know.
In the week of June 3-7th, instrumental music students learning in the Ensemble program will complete their Solo Performance CATs. They will complete a short assessment, which will replace their lesson for that week. Times will be visible on Compass. The public performance component of the CAT will be on Wednesday or Thursday evening of that week and will appear as an event on Compass for parents to provide consent. This CAT is an important component of our performance curriculum, where students have the opportunity to develop confidence and resilience in a supportive environment. We are really looking forward to hearing students show their talents!
VET Year 1 and 2 students will be performing at Geelong’s iconic Barwon Club on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th June from 6pm. Come along and hear the future of live music!
