Embracing Diversity - Celebrating Harmony Day

We celebrated Harmony Day as a College on Wednesday, 1 May. It is a day dedicated to honouring the diversity of our College community. With a lineup of engaging events, from cultural parades to workshops, it always promises to be an unforgettable celebration of unity.

The celebrations commenced in the O'Reilly Centre with a solemn Liturgy before our staff and students proudly showcased their heritage in a cultural dress parade. It was then time for lunch where we celebrated the culinary diversity of our College with a multi-cuisine lunch (offering a choice of 11 different cuisines from local restaurants), learnt about Sikh culture as we tried our hands at tying turbans and explored Indigenous culture through creative expression at the boomerang painting station. There was also a hurling workshop, where we learnt about the traditional Irish game, promoting teamwork, discipline and mutual respect on the field. We ended the day back in the O'Reilly Centre with a cultural concert.

This year's Harmony Day celebration was very colourful and harmonious. Many students who expressed their nationalities through their beautiful traditional attires. The day was also filled with amazing performances, delicious international food, and many creative workshops such as the boomerang painting and the Sikh turbans. Though this may have been our last Harmony Day celebration at this College, we were able to celebrate and treasure many amazing memories - Shelna Sony (Year 12)

Harmony Day is about celebrating our diversity and sharing our cultures, which has definitely been done justice this year. Our community came together today with the vibrancy of everyone in their traditional attire, along with the international food lunch and activities. I tried out Indian paratha for the first time which was very tasty (and filling)! Definitely a worthwhile experience. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, all thanks to the Harmony Day Committee's careful planning - Jia Ying Chen (Year 12)
