The SASj Sport Term 2 competition commenced on Wednesday, 1 May, showcasing a diverse range of sports including basketball, football, netball and volleyball. Every Wednesday, the competition aims to foster participation and provide students with the opportunity represent the College.
I'm excited to share the below results from our fixtures against Ursula Frayne this week:
We held our Inter-House Cross Country on Tuesday, 23 April. Whether they ran, jogged or walked, it was awesome to see so many students participate, despite the windy conditions.
Congratulations to our Individual Champions, who were acknowledged with a medallion on the day, it was great to see some competition for first place in each year group. We will announce the House Champion at our next College assembly.
Thank you to the dedicated staff and students who assisted throughout the day, it would not have been possible without all of your help.

Following the ACC carnivals, both our Junior Boys and Junior Girls made it through to the Elimination Finals. It was a nail biter between our Junior Boys and All Saints College, but in the end we went down by two points. Our Junior Girls headed to Australind to face Our Lady of Mercy College in a challenging game and unfortunately did not secure the win. Well done to both teams for their effort, resilience and sportsmanship.
Our Senior Boys were tough competitors, finishing their pool fixtures undefeated. In the Elimination Final, they faced All Saints College at home, sealing the deal with a 10 point victory. In the Quarter Final this week, they headed to Chisholm Catholic College, where they went down 51-31. Despite coming home without a win and finishing their ACC campaign, the team should be very proud of their teamwork and relentless approach to their games.
Congratulations to our Senior Girls who won their Elimination Final at home in an exciting game against Kennedy Baptist College. With their opposition forfeiting the Quarter Final, our Senior Girls will progress straight through to the Semi Final next week, where they will play for a spot in the Grand Final. Good luck to our Senior Girls and hopefully more good news to come.
We will be holding trials for our Specialised Basketball Program later in Term 2. Students who wish to participate will need to complete an application form available here. Ahead of the trials, applications for our Blessed Hugh of Fosse Basketball Scholarships are also open. Further details about the trials will be provided via email to all applicants closer to the trial date. We encourage interested students to apply.

It's been a busy start to the term for a number of our teams, with the SSWA competition getting underway.
Our SSWA Senior Boys hosted their first group game against Safety Bay at the Sam Kerr Football Centre. It was an intense game from kick-off, but ultimately ended in a 3-0 defeat. Our Senior Boys displayed a high level of skill and determination, particularly in the first half, creating numerous scoring opportunities. The game maintained a high tempo throughout, with both teams displaying the competitive spirit football is known for. A positive to come out of the game was the effort our Senior Boys showed in maintaining possession and playing football under pressure. For many of our players, it was their first game in two years. Although the results didn't go our way, I couldn't be prouder of the effort they displayed. It was a valuable learning experience as we look ahead to future games, as well as the ACC Senior Championships.
Our SSWA Senior Girls faced off against Lynwood B in their first group game, coming home with an impressive 6-0 victory. Their performance was nothing short of outstanding, with a number of the goals being a big team effort. Considering they lost to the same team last year, their skills have come along way, despite being predominantly comprised of Year 9 and 10 students. We played a strong Lynwood A team in our second game of the competition. Our Senior Girls held their own in a tightly contested first half, with the score remaining 0-0, despite both teams creating a number of scoring opportunities. Whilst mistakes proved costly in the second half, resulting in a 5-0 loss, they should definitely hold their heads high. They showed immense character and spirit throughout the game and I was incredibly proud of them. Our Senior Girls have two more challenging encounters against two of the strongest teams in the competitions, as well as the eagerly anticipated ACC Senior Championships, promising further opportunities to showcase their talent.
Our SSWA Junior Boys have entered in a new competition for us, facing off against South Coast, one of the top contenders in the competition. Despite a challenging start, our Junior Boys showed determination and resilience throughout the game. Initially, we held our ground with a solid defensive shape, restricting South Coast's opportunities and forcing them to play in front of us. Although the game ended 5-0 in South Coast's favour, it's worth noting that the majority of their goals came from mistakes we can limit in future games. This game showed that we can compete even with the strongest teams in the competition and we will continue to work hard to prepare for future games.
We will be holding trials for our Specialised Football Program later in Term 2. Students who wish to participate will need to complete an application form available here. Ahead of the trials, applications for our Blessed Emily Podoska Football Scholarships are also open. Further details about the trials will be provided via email to all applicants closer to the trial date. We encourage interested students to apply.
