Music Showcase

We loved seeing our musical stars perform at our Music Showcase last Thursday evening. Thank you to our music instructors Cara Bilstein, Carol Young, Guy Philips and Peter Young for their valuable musical tuition and support.

Music is such an important part of child development. Learning music helps children develop their thinking skills, express their emotions, boost their creativity, and build social connections, all while improving focus, discipline, and even their performance in other school subjects.

It's been wonderful seeing the Kindy students and the Receptions interact through music this year, singing and interacting together. We also have 3 other choirs, the Junior Choir (Reception and Year 1/2) the Middle Primary Choir (2/3 and 3/4 classes) and the Festival of Music Choir for all Year 5s and year 6s by invitation.  I just love seeing and hearing the joy this brings to all. You will be able to see all of these choirs perform at the Uraidla Show on the back of the big truck on Sunday November 2.

Next week we are excited to see our students perform in the Festival of Music at the Entertainment Centre, with over 1000 students in the combined choir! What a special experience for students to remember throughout their lives.

Practising Gratitude

Last Friday in the newsletter, I wrote about 3 Good Things- have you tried it yet as a family? If so I would love to hear from you about how this went for you, through a SeeSaw message or email. 🙂

Can you spot your child?

A big THANK YOU to Corinne, who has made these fun and creative Book Week-themed library displays for each class in the library. Can you find your child? 🧐

Imagine Uraidla 'Pitch to Win'

We were so pleased to have a number of our students apply for Imagine Uraidla's community grants. They all decided on a project and then bravely 'pitched' their idea to a large group of people at the AGM this past Wednesday night. Congratulations to all of these students for participating, and to those who were successful in winning a $250 grant for their projects: Victor for bird box building, Tilly, Madi, Shae and Klara for a community movie night, Harper for an 'Art of Uraidla' town mural and Adelaide for the school's green gardening club.

After school procedures

Can you help us with our after-school procedures? We regularly remind students of our rules, but if you can also be aware and remind students that would help us so much, thank you!

The yard is supervised from 3:10-3:30. When the bell rings at 3:30:

  • If students are on the playground, they need to get off the play equipment right away, run to the adult collecting them and wait with them.
  • If they are playing on the courts, they also need to stop and find their adult.
  • They need to stay with this adult until the yard duty teacher makes their way up to the office.
  • If their adult is not at school yet, they need to take their bag and wait for the teacher under the shelter of the Sports Shed. The yard duty teacher will come and get them once they have checked the yard to see everyone is accounted for.
  • They can’t just hang out with a friend’s parents, unless their parents have arranged to go home with them and/or have given us permission for this to take place.
  • Once the yard duty teacher collects the kids from the shelter shed and moves off to the office, everyone is allowed to play again if the adults they are with say it’s ok.

Kids sometimes wonder, "why can’t I just keep playing on the equipment near my adult? If they can see me from where they are, what’s the problem?

The reason we ask kids to get off of the equipment is that we care about student safety more than anything. It’s just too hard for the yard duty teacher to check every student is with the adult taking them home, when everyone is moving around the playground, on the equipment and playing ball games. Trust me, it’s really hard! When everyone is with an adult, it only takes the yard duty teacher a couple of minutes to see who has not been collected yet, and then kids can get back to play.

We'd also love your support with the trampolines. Thank you to Darren for replacing the damaged trampolines, and for installing our new safety mat! We're asking everyone to keep off of the blue mat when others are jumping, to keep everyone safe. Please let your preschoolers know the trampoline rules: only one person at a time on the trampolines, and if others are waiting for a turn, please move off after 10 jumps. Thank you for your help!

Have a wonderful fortnight!
