On the excursion to Darebin Creek we met the Park Ranger, Peter, who told us about the creeks ecosystem and showed us how to water test. Overall, the park was already fun and the water testing was better! Peter told us how to test the water and let us try it for ourselves. We were testing turbidity, dissolved oxygen and electroconductivity. Our first test showed that the first bottle of water had ammonia in it, which was quite interesting. We tested for turbidity with a plastic tube, which would smile if the water quality was good. We found out that the creek was clear. Walking back to school was fun since we were marching and acting like Soldiers and saying “AT EASE!” and “ATTENTION” and “HOORRAH!”

In my humanities class, I have been learning about waterways, water features and how water is used throughout our daily lives. Water can affect us in many ways, especially if the water we use is dirty or has bacteria if the water has any diseases. So on my excursion my class went to the creek with a Darebin worker and we had all these cool little gadgets to see if the water was clean or not. But throughout the whole excursion, I would definitely recommend it for the following year 7s.
