What's been happening this week?

MORE PUPPET SHOW FUN

To finish our Inquiry unit on Light and Sound, some students presented their shadow puppets to the kinder students. They all were excited and super proud to show case their creativity. It was fantastic to see the students present with confidence and use appropriate volume. It is not easy presented to an audience and we were really proud of how well the students performed!

A special thanks to Amy Ferris for combining our Inquiry unit into the Art lessons. It was wonderful to have the cross-curricular link to the specialist program.

STEM CHALLENGE

We celebrated our learning by having a STEM challenge where students worked in small groups to design and create a catapult made out of icy pole sticks and rubber bands. They then measured how far the pom- pom flew from their catapult. Some students even compared the distance of their pom-pom to their friends.

WEEKEND WRITING

The 1/2 students enjoyed sharing their weekend recounts to the class on Monday. We have been focusing on correct letter formations, punctuation and some have even been using paragraphs.  We are so proud of all the learning the students have done this term. We hope you all have a restful break and enjoy some sunshine.

5/6 SCIENCEWORKS

On Wednesday we went to Scienceworks. When we got there, we first experimented with coding and learning the reactions to the codes you put into the robot, like learning how to sense surroundings and navigate a maze. Then after, we got some free time for about 2 hours to explore the museum. The exhibits were interactive, with some being able to test your fitness ability, being able to simulate worlds and there was even an ambience room, where you could change the mood to test if it’ll change people’s emotions. Overall, it was a great interactive area. After we explored the area, we went to the Lighting Show. Owen the presenter showed us different types of energy and then he showed us some lighting, since it was loud we had to cover our ears. The lighting made the beat into the Super Mario theme song. Overall, we had a great time.

5/6 Maths Games Day Report

Last Wednesday 8 people from Box Hill North Primary School went to Box Hill High School to compete in a Maths Games Day against other schools.

We all had fun competing in groups against other schools playing maths related games to gain tokens. The winning team won prizes like t-Shirts and puzzles. And our very own Venus won a wonderful hat from a raffle. We played lots of fun games, including Maths Snakes and Ladders and Maths Tic Tac Toe.

It was a great day!
