Principals Report

Term 3 has now ended, and it has been a great term for Thornbury High School. As always, Term 3 is packed with activities and events, offering students many opportunities to engage with our co-curricular program, some of which you will be able to read about in this newsletter.
A particular highlight this term was the achievement of our brilliant soccer players in Year 8, with both the Year 8 Boys’ Soccer Team and the Year 8 Girls’ Soccer Team runners-up in the State Final! Congratulations to all the students representing THS in Soccer, and thank you to Mr Saleem Nasser and Mr Patrick Sowersby for all their hard work and commitment in supporting our students.
In the second half of this term, every week is an exciting celebration of a different area of the curriculum, with Book Week taking place in week 5, with the support of our Library staff in particular. Thank you to everyone who took part in the Costume Parade, film screening and debate during Book Week. At Thornbury High School, we love reading books, and our Year 7 students are particularly active users of our Library resources, which is fantastic to see.
Science Week followed with a Science Quiz, and a range of challenges open to our students, including building the tallest tower with spaghetti and marshmallows - a very popular competition! Thank you to our team of Science teachers for organising these events.
In Health PE Week, among many great events, our Year 10 students had the chance to attend a session of either Bounce or 10-pin Bowling. This was a very popular event - thank you to Mr Paul Mameghan, Assistant Principal, for organising it. Our Year 8 Sports Day was also very popular with students; I appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in making it successful.
Multicultural Week saw our community coming together to celebrate our diversity of culture at Thornbury High School. Our diversity is one of our main strengths as a school, and it’s great to see our students representing their culture with pride and enthusiasm. Through food, flags, costume and dancing, our students expressed their respective cultures - all part of the THS community.
As the term comes to an end, we have an intrepid group of students travelling in Central Australia, having a wonderful time while also learning about the culture of the Anangu people and doing some serious hiking in the desert. As they return to THS, we have another large group of students and staff leaving on our tour to Italy. Next term, I look forward to hearing from all our travellers about their experiences from these wonderful trips.
Have a great break from school, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on site at THS on Monday, 6 October. Until then, please enjoy the spring sunshine and the chance to rest and relax with friends and family.
