State

Congratulations to our Year 8 Girls and Boys Soccer teams that achieved the incredible feat of State Runner-up at their respective events in consecutive days. Both teams went through the pool rounds undefeated, to then come up against Maribrynong College in the Grand Final. This also meant the second State Grand Final in two years for the Year 8 Girls Soccer team, an amazing effort.

Special acknowledgement to Mr Saleem Nasser for his continued long term dedication and commitment to the school soccer program, leading to these outstanding team results.

Leota Cup - Rugby 7’s

Grant Wason - Rugby Coach Report:

On Thursday, the 4th of September, Thornbury High School students played Rugby 7’s for the inaugural Rob Leota Cup Tournament. Rob Leota is a former Thornbury student and a Wallaby, so it was important that our school was able to send two teams to the event, an under-16 and an under-14. Apart from one Rugby Union player and two Rugby League boys, most players had never played any form of Rugby before. However, their enthusiasm and athletic ability overcame their lack of experience, highlighted by a hard-fought victory in one of their matches against Greater Shepparton Secondary College, whose team was made up of experienced rugby players. We can be proud of the boys’ efforts, in particular for the manner on and off the field in which they conducted themselves.
