THE VILLAGE

The Village: Supporting Student Wellbeing Together
At Korumburra Secondary College, we know that strong communities are built on connection, kindness, and care. The Village is where we share updates, ideas and evidence-based practices that support the wellbeing of our students and school community.
RUOK? Day at KSC
This week, our school came together to mark RUOK? Day. Across the day, students took part in a number of activities designed to highlight the importance of checking in with one another and starting meaningful conversations.
From classroom discussions to yard activities, the focus was on reminding each other that a simple question — “Are you OK?” — can make a big difference. We were proud to see students taking the message seriously, supporting each other, and reflecting on how they can continue these conversations every day, not just once a year.
Pop Culture Parenting – Follow-Up on Adolescence
In the last edition, we highlighted an episode of the Pop Culture Parenting podcast that explored adolescence as a time when young people need connection and reduced pressure. This week, we’re following up with the next instalment, where the PCP team field questions from their community.
Listeners asked about the real-world challenges of putting theory into practice:
How do you balance giving space with staying connected?
What can parents do when teens push back or shut down?
How do families set healthy boundaries without it feeling like more pressure?
The discussion digs deeper into these common concerns, offering practical, research-backed strategies that are both realistic and compassionate. It’s a reminder that there’s no “perfect” approach to parenting adolescents, but creating space for open conversations and staying connected are powerful steps in the right direction.
