As always, we love catching up with news from our former Collegians.
Amongst the huge crowd of our Mazenod College Fathers and Sons who attended our Father’s Day Mass and Breakfast, we were delighted to welcome back so many of our Old Boys who sons are our current students. It is always a great joy to catch up with our Old Boys and their families.

Last Friday, 12th September, Mazenod College held its annual Steven Tynan Memorial and Emergency Services Assembly. This Assembly embodies our sincerest and heartfelt thanks for the lives and selfless service and ultimates sacrifices that our Old Collegian, Steven Tynan, RIP, (MOC 1983) and his partner, Damien Eyre, RIP, made to our Victorian Community. Both Steven and Damien were members of Victoria Police, and both men were tragically slain in Walsh Street, Prahran, in the early hours of the 12th October 1988. At this Assembly, we welcomed back to the College, Steven’s sister, Mrs Sue Fitzgerald, along with her husband, Jim Fitzgerald.
We were addressed by our Old Collegian, Stephen Fontana (MOC 1974). Stephen was our former Assistant Commissioner for Victoria Police. Stephen reminded our College of the great joy that the members of Victoria Police and all our Emergency Service workers undertake in ensuring that all of us have safe and peaceful communities in which to live.
During the Assembly, Steven Tynan, RIP, was posthumously awarded the Mazenod College/Mazenod Old Collegians’ “Burning Flame Award” for outstanding lifelong service, leadership, and achievement. This Award was presented by Stephen Fontana to Mrs Sue Fitzgerald.
In addition, at this Assembly, we welcomed back our Old Collegians who are members of our Emergency Services. These include our Police Officers, Protective Service Workers, Paramedics, Ambulance Officers and Fire Officers.
All of us at Mazenod College and all of us in MOCA owe our most immense gratitude for the lives of Steven Tynan, RIP, Damien Eyre, RIP, and to all our Emergency Service workers. May Almighty God bless them and their families.
We are always keen to promote our Old Collegians and their professions, businesses and trades. Please feel free to contact us at Mazenod College. We will include these in our Mazenod College Newsletter, The Mazenod Gazette, as well as on our Alumnly Website and on our Mazenod Old Collegians’ Association Facebook page.
My name is Ethan Atkinson, and I am a Vocational Major student at Mazenod College, entering Year 12. I am seeking a work placement opportunity for next year, specifically on Thursdays, to fulfill my coursework requirements. My vocational focus is carpentry, and I will also be attending Holmsglen TAFE one day per week. If you are able to offer assistance, I can be reached at 0452550091 or via email. Thank you for your consideration.
Many of our Old Boys might be looking to buy religious bracelets as gifts for their family and friends. These bracelets are the perfect gift! They have been hand made by our very own Fr Dominic Rozario OMI, our College Chaplain, and he has blessed them, too! They are for sale at $15 each. All proceeds go to the Oblate Seminarians in Bangladesh. For further information, please feel free to contact Tina Giacco at Mazenod College.
We encourage our Mazenod Old Collegians to sign up and join our alumni digital platform. Please download the Alumnly app and register for a FREE account today.
