Literacy & Numeracy Early Intervention Program (LNEIP)

At our school, we are committed to ensuring every student develops strong foundations in literacy and numeracy. In 2026, we will be implementing the Literacy and Numeracy Early Intervention Program (LNEIP) - a new Victorian Government initiative designed to provide targeted, early support for students who would benefit from additional instruction.

The Semester 1 focus of LNEIP will be Reading.

The Semester 2 focus will shift to Mathematics.

What Is LNEIP?

Victorian Department of Education’s Literacy and Numeracy Early Intervention Program provides short-term, targeted support to students identified through assessment data and teacher observation. The aim is to strengthen essential foundational skills so students can confidently access classroom learning and demonstrate ongoing growth.

The program includes:

  • Small group targeted instruction
  • Explicit teaching of key skills
  • Evidence-informed practices aligned to classroom programs
  • Regular monitoring of student progress

Importantly, students continue participating in their full classroom program, with LNEIP designed to complement and reinforce core teaching.

Families can learn more about the program on the Department website

Parent Communication Timeline

  • Reading (Semester 1): Letters will be sent home this week to students identified for Reading support.
  • Mathematics (Semester 2): Letters will be sent home in early Term 3 for students identified for Mathematics support.
  • Koorie Literacy and Numeracy Program (KLNP): Students identified for the program will be notified in Term 2.

Early intervention is one of the most effective ways to improve long-term learning outcomes. By providing targeted support at the right time, we aim to ensure every student continues to grow in confidence and capability.

Critical & Creative Thinking 2.0

At our school, we are committed to helping students become thoughtful, curious and confident learners. As part of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, Critical and Creative Thinking plays an important role in developing these skills across all year levels.

Critical and Creative Thinking supports students in asking questions, analysing information, solving problems, and reflecting on their learning. It encourages them not only to learn new knowledge, but to think deeply about it. Students are taught how to examine different perspectives, identify bias, make reasoned decisions and justify their ideas with evidence.

Creative thinking is equally important. Students are encouraged to generate ideas, explore possibilities, take considered risks and think “outside the box.” Whether they are designing a science investigation, writing a narrative, solving a maths problem or participating in class discussions, they are learning to approach challenges with curiosity and flexibility.

Under Victorian Curriculum 2.0, these skills are explicitly taught and embedded across learning areas. This means students are not only developing subject knowledge, but also building lifelong thinking skills that will support them in further education, the workplace and everyday life.

By strengthening Critical and Creative Thinking, we are equipping our students to become independent learners who can adapt, innovate and thrive in an ever-changing world.
