From the Classroom

Grade 1 News!

It has been a fantastic start to the year in Grade 1. Students have settled in beautifully and we have worked hard to establish positive routines and a supportive classroom environment.

In Reading, we are developing our comprehension strategies, building phonics knowledge through Mesmer activities and strengthening our independent reading stamina. It has been wonderful to see students embracing our daily Reading hour.

During Writing, we have focused on constructing sentences with correct punctuation. Students have explored recount writing and are learning how to make their sentences more engaging.

We are thoroughly enjoying our maths groups with the Grade 1/2s. We have been strengthening our fluency skills while exploring how to collect and represent data. We are learning about place value and have used MABs to represent numbers. Students also look forward to their weekly worded problem-solving task.

For Theme, Foundation to Grade 2 students are learning all about the zoo in preparation for our Term 2 excursion. Students enjoy working together across the section and discovering new facts.

Last week, we had a wonderful time at the pool, building on our swimming skills and developing our awareness of water safety. It was fantastic to see students growing in confidence in the water. This week, we were very excited about Funky Hat and Sock Day which was held on Tuesday. Students had a great time learning in their colourful accessories.

It has been a productive and enjoyable start to the year and we look forward to continuing our learning. Be sure to check out our lovely photos below!
