Cross-Curricular Learning (CCL) in the Junior School engages students across all year levels in units designed to develop an understanding of “Who We Are.” The development of a strong sense of self and belonging are key trans-disciplinary themes woven throughout these units. Lesson focuses primarily provide opportunities for students to explore who they are and their place within their family, classroom and community.

Through integrated units that explore identity, community, collaboration, and diversity, students learn to appreciate differences and recognise similarities between themselves and others. These experiences support the development of empathy, respect, and collaboration, forming the foundation for positive relationships and active participation in their learning environments.

During the first few weeks of school, students have demonstrated the learning disposition of curiosity. Provocations included questions and clues designed to drive student thinking, allowing them to act as ‘detectives’ to make connections around their termly focus. Teachers designed learning experiences that spark wonder and inquiry, such as exploring real-world scenarios, examining artefacts and engaging in hands-on problem-solving.

These experiences guide students to generate meaningful questions and make connections across subject areas. By drawing on evidence and working collaboratively to find answers, our learners begin to see how knowledge is interconnected, fostering critical thinking and deeper understanding.
