We’re excited to introduce your Canowindra Campus First Aid team for this year! Our nurses are Lisa Weier and Ghada Elias. Nicole Tyrrell is our First Aid Support Officer, here Monday to Friday.

Be sure to look out for our new notice board in the Wellbeing foyer, which will feature a different health theme each month. Right now, we’re celebrating Heart Health, which tied in beautifully with Valentine’s Day ❤️
Be Sweet to Your Heart: A Family Health Guide
Valentine’s Day may have just passed, but the message it carries – love for the people around us and for ourselves – is one worth holding onto all year. Interestingly, some of the most beloved symbols of Valentine’s Day turn out to be genuinely good for your heart:

Dark chocolate (a square or two of 70% cocoa or higher) contains flavonoids shown to improve blood flow and lower blood pressure –a meta-analysis published in the BMJ found that higher dark chocolate consumption was associated with reduced cardiovascular disease risk.

Taking a moment to stop and literally smell the roses is good medicine too – research on floral scents and natural environments has found measurable reductions in anxiety and blood pressure, while the simple act of pausing to notice beauty, what psychologists call savouring, has been shown to reduce stress hormones and support heart health.

And hugs? A study from Carnegie Mellon University found that people who receive frequent hugs have greater protection against stress-induced illness, with physical touch triggering the release of oxytocin – a hormone that directly lowers cortisol, blood pressure, and heart rate.
While our first aid teams are always here when bumps, scrapes, or illness strikes, the best kind of health care starts with the small, daily choices we make for ourselves and our families. Here are thirteen heart-healthy tips inspired by our Wellbeing notice board:
Ultimately, we want children to grow up feeling confident and informed about their own health – able to listen to their bodies, make good choices, and ask for help when they genuinely need it. That’s something families and schools can build together, one small habit at a time. We’re glad to be part of that with you this year ❤️

As always, the health and safety of the students in our care at Overnewton is a priority.
One part of that commitment is through the management of medical conditions. New Medical Management Plans are to be completed every year during Term 4 in preparation for the following school year. Completed forms and all corresponding medication/s (including asthma) will need to be returned directly to the Campus Nurse in the First Aid Room. A heartfelt thank you to all those families who have already done so. If you have not yet supplied the 2026 information and supplies, please do so ASAP. If your child no longer requires a management plan, please indicate this in writing to the Campus Nurse, to ensure our records are up to date.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the nurses at your child's campus:
