Snorkling Excursion
Year 11 Biology
The Year 11 Biology students recently spent the day at Barwon Heads, conducting ecosystem sampling at the Barwon Bluff Marine Sanctuary. Students were able to take their classroom understanding of organism adaptations and ecosystem demands and apply it meaningfully to the real-world context of marine environments. They particularly enjoyed observing how marine life varies across different levels of the intertidal zone.
After our fieldwork, we stopped in Queenscliff for a brief lunch before heading to the pier for an exciting snorkelling adventure. From there, students boarded a boat and headed into Port Phillip Bay, where they were able to swim with seals, explore the underwater environment, and even spot a very rare Weedy Sea Dragon. The day also included a range of fun water-based activities that students thoroughly enjoyed.
It was a fantastic day out, providing opportunities not only for hands‑on learning but also for building a supportive, joyful class culture. Being out in creation, marvelling at the wonders of God alongside the Year 11s, was truly a highlight.
