Dear Sacred Heart Community

Prayer

As we celebrate Harmony Week we pray:

These past three days I have been on a leadership conference with Catholic Primary School Principals from across Victoria. With a theme "WITH STRENGTH", I have had the privilege of listening to three incredible people. The first former Socceroo Craig Foster who is now known for his work as a humanitarian fighting for the rights of the oppressed within our society, in particular refugees. Yesterday I was enthralled listening to the story of Saroo Brierley, who at the age of five was separated from his family in India, fostered to a family in Australia and reunited over 20 years later through painstaking research with his mum and sister back in the village he left all those years ago. I had heard a little about Jelena Dokic's story in the media, but it was not until yesterday upon hearing the magnitude of her epic struggle as a refugee family initially, and then the constant family violence she endured, that I was able to comprehend what an incredible individual she is.

I share this experience with you because as we celebrate Harmony Week, we are reminded that we can only be united as one strong society if we take the opportunity to show connection, care and compassion for each other. I do believe that Sacred Heart is a community that tries really hard to accept all families for the journeys and stories they bring to our school community.

Hot Cross Buns

We still have some packets of Hot Cross buns for sale. If you have lost your order form or would like to order more, simply put your name, number of packets you would like to order in an envelop. Again thank you to the Haley Family for this incredible donation.

Easter Raffle

We will sell tickets next week both before and after school as part to our annual Easter Raffle. Tickets will be 50 cents/or three for a $1.00. The raffle will be drawn on Thursday the last day of Term One.

After School/Before School Protocols

I would like to reinforce an after school protocol that ensures are students are safely supervised. I ask that only those students who are accompanied by their parents and careers move out into the playground and over to the adventure playground. I see this opportunity for parents to socialise as an important part of community. Please be aware however that you are responsible for the safety of your children.

Students who are awaiting their parents are not to move out into the yard beyond the multi purpose room. At the moment some students awaiting their parents are playing in the yard beyond the multi purpose room and are therefore not supervised.

Of a morning only our Foundation students are allowed on the adventure playground. I am happy to supervise them and this again gives our new parents the opportunity to catch up for a chat.

St Patrick's Day Mass

Last Friday some of our Year Six student school leaders accompanied by Kate, represented our school at the annual St Patrick's Day Mass. The Mass is the culmination of Catholic Education Week.

Parking Along Bell Street

Fr Aloysius came past earlier this week asking if the following could be put in the newsletter:

He has advised that parents/carers refrain from parking on Bell Street when dropping off and picking up children, as there was a big accident on Sunday, involving the car of a parishioner. Both cars were write offs.

Secondly, it has also come to the attention of Fr Aloysius and some parents, that people are risking crossing 8 lanes of Bell Street, instead of crossing at the lights.

Yours Sincerely

Mark
