Around the Secondary Classes

Year 10 Psychology

This term, our Year 10 psychology students have embarked on a journey into the human brain, delving into the function and role of its various parts. One of the highlights  has been the hands-on experience of creating detailed models of the brain using playdough. This tactile approach has helped them better understand and identify different brain regions.

Classes also explored the topic of dementia, learning about its causes and the impact it has on individuals and society as a whole. Going beyond theory, our students were challenged to put their knowledge into practice by designing activities or tasks that could enhance the quality of life for those living with dementia. These tasks aimed to stimulate cognitive, sensory, or physical engagement, showcasing our students' empathy and innovation.

Legal and Business Studies Elective

Legal Studies and Business students have started the year learning all about economics.

Central to their learning has been understanding of how the decisions they make in deciding what to buy and when to buy things impacts on the economy. They have learnt that they are involved in economics with every decision they make, and that it involves everyone and everything.

To test their learning and understanding, the students were challenged with developing games that include at least one economic concept learnt in class this term.

A variety of board and card games were developed by the students across both classes, each game with its own unique focus. Some were focused on the concepts themselves, such as opportunity cost, needs and wants or supply and demand, while others used one or more of these concepts to develop games around F1s, grocery shopping, world domination and even models and catwalks.

The games were a huge hit with their classmates and demonstrated the students develop understanding of what economics is, all of which provided further proof about the power of learning through doing!
