As the seasons change so do the amazing food creations in Food Technology!

Sweet Desires

It has been wonderful to welcome the Year 9 students who attended Leadership Camp back into the classroom for Term 2. Students have displayed incredible skills and a desire to achieve. They have produced and presented Individual Sticky Date Puddings and ANZAC muffins. Students are currently designing their own celebration cake to produce later this term. They are currently creating a vison board to ideate their design ideas.

Year 7/8 Food Technology

At the end of last term students created their very own Chocolate Easter Nests to celebrate Easter. In Term 2 students are developing their skills in working collaboratively with others and in an organised and focused manner. In week 1 prepared and presented Golden Syrup Dumplings with their partner and enjoyed the addition of ice-cream and cream! This term students will have the opportunity to develop their understanding of the design process and how this can be used to create their own product.

Year 5/6 Technology - Textiles

The Year 5/6 students commenced the term very enthusiastically as they explored the topic of ‘Celebrating Differences’. As designers students will create their very own Ugly Doll inspired from the movie. Each one will be unique, and from the students’ initial designs they are going to be incredible!

Year 2/3/4 Food Technology

Students in Year 2/3/4 are to be commended on their positive start to Term 2. Each lesson the students work collaboratively and independently to create their incredible food products. In week 1 students revisited hygiene and safety in the kitchen and created their very own sandwich on a stick. They were able to select a range of healthy ingredients and prepared them to use their cutting, spreading, and then choose which order their ingredients were placed on the stick to create a colourful sandwich on a stick. In week 2 students learnt about the process of rubbing-in and kneading. Students produced their very own berry scone and enjoyed this with jam and cream. This was berrylicious!

Thank you to the students for making and packing nearly 200 ANZAC biscuits for the ANZAC service at Edenhope – you are all AMAZING!

Healthy Lunchboxes

Students at Edenhope College are fortunate enough to experience preparing food from Foundation through to Year 12. This enables students to develop lifelong skills and the opportunity to develop healthy eating habits. Nutrition Australia support this and state that packing healthy lunchboxes with your child can help develop an understanding of:

  • The importance of eating a variety of whole foods
  • The relationship between food, growth and development
  • The value of food and taking time to prepare and enjoy healthy food with others
  • That discretionary foods (foods high in saturated fat, added sugar and/or salt) are not good choices for everyday

For children, lunchboxes have many different and important roles.

  • Healthy lunchboxes can provide children with skills and knowledge on how to prepare and select an appropriate amount of food.
  • Encouraging children to sit, relax and take time to eat lunchbox foods demonstrates the important role food has in socialising with others.

Following are a few ideas on how to plan and create a healthy lunchbox from DPV Health. If you have any questions or would like to chat about this topic please feel free to contact me at school.
