Welcome everybody to Edenhope College's latest edition of the Whytalla.

2024 Year of our School Review

To give you some insight, a school review happens every four years and a team of professional educationists come into the school and look for areas of strength and areas of potential development. From the four-day process, a new School Strategic Plan (SSP), is developed. From the school’s strategic plan the school takes direction for learning, well-being and student engagement, until the next review. Lofty targets are set to strive towards creating the best learning environment for our students. Some of those in the review team are: the head reviewer, two visiting principals from other schools (that are relevant to our size and demographics), our regional manager and our school president. Our School Improvement Team will also be involved (7 staff members). There will be spot surveys conducted over the four-day review process, with members of our learning environment, students, staff and parents.  It’s not a process to be scared of, it’s a process to embrace. If you are involved, be open, honest and constructive towards helping build the best learning environment we can!

Advance Camp with Ex-Edenhope Residents

The first week back in Term 2 saw our Advanced elective students off to camp in the Warrnambool region. We were extremely lucky to be able to stay at High View Equestrian Centre which was recently taken over by Sara and Dale McDonnell and family from Edenhope. Sara and Dale have a large equestrian centre (undercover), and they also have bed and breakfast cottages should you ever want to stay down by the sea!

On the Monday, students walked 25 kilometres, setting up camp on Sara and Dale’s property. Many campcraft skills were improved or ‘learnt’ over the two-day Bronze Duke of Ed camp. On the second day all students surfed at the beach which was a great experience for all.  The bronze students then went home leaving six Silver Duke of Ed students. Silver students then had an extra day to complete. They finished off Tuesday with a cryptic hike throughout Warrnambool, taking photos at certain landmarks. Students would have covered about 15 kilometres in the afternoon, then we spent the night around the campfire back at camp. In the morning the students started off with a hot chocolate at the Breakwater Café and then hiked to Logan’s Beach, a seven kilometre hike. We all then headed back to Edenhope and returned by 3 p.m. Reading my students reflections of the trip, they had a fantastic time!

School Policies

Can everyone please take the time to look at the policies I’ve added to my report. I would like family support to emphasise especially the importance of the message in the Inclusion and Diversity Policy. The College can take a lead with students, through curriculum and class discussion, but we need the support from families to reinforce community morals.

Principal

Please read the following policies, they are for the benefit of all in the Edenhope College learning environment.
