Exploring Early Childhood

Students in the Exploring class have been studying nutrition requirements from birth to pre-schoolers. Students have engaged in a series of practical lessons to make and taste some of the healthy alternative foods including  sweet potato cous cous and chicken nuggets, broccoli and potato bites and Vegie pikelets. The class are now creating their own healthy cook book to demonstrate their learning about nutritional requirements.

Year 12 Team Building

During their Year Advisor Wellbeing lesson, Year 12 students were tasked with a team-building activity to better their well-being and success when working with others. This task, designed by Mrs Golden had students create a package to protect biscuits during transport. They had limited resources and had to discuss, design, and create packages that would protect the biscuits from being thrown, being compressed under weight, and being submerged in water. After putting these packages through the stresses of transport, students unwrapped their packages to see if their biscuits survived. Both teams succeeded with only very minor damages inflicted on their biscuits with one sustaining a small crack and others becoming damp but not soaked through. Students then reflected on the task, what worked well and what didn't and how they could improve if the task was repeated.

They discussed how team building can establish successful communication with others and foster effective teamwork in the future. Students expressed how these skills are fundamental in the real world and can help towards having a positive mindset when working with others.

Stage 5 Mathematics

As an introduction to their new topic, Stage 5 students explored the relationships between 3D solids, their dimensions, surface area, and volume. They were tasked with creating an open box of varying dimensions and calculating their surface areas and volumes. Students compared their designs to determine who had the greatest volume and whether there was a relationship between surface area and volume. Some great discussions were had around these designs. Well done Stage 5.
