Principal's Address
Mrs Hawkins on leave
Deputy Principal Ms Christine Hawkins will be on leave for the rest of Term 1. In this time, there will be no official Deputy Principal.
The decision was made at the Leadership Team meeting last week to divide up the responsibilities of the Deputy Principal and share them among the existing staff. As a result, I will be managing all orange Card level behaviours, Formal Cautions of Suspension, Suspensions and Return from Suspension’s. All other responsibilities have been taken on by willing staff with the best interests of the students and staff in mind. Thank you to all staff involved in making this situation work for the school.
I wish Ms. Hawkins a speedy recovery and hope she returns next term healthy and ready for the year ahead.
New Faculty Leader of Technology and Applied Science / Creative and Performing Arts
Mrs Catherine Golden has been successfully appointed, via a merit selection process, to the TAS / CAPA Faculty Leader position at Boorowa Central School. She had been relieving in this position since the start of 2024 and is now the permanent Faculty Leader.
This is a great outcome for the students of Boorowa Central School as Mrs Golden is a much respected member of our staff and an exceptional educator.
Congratulations Mrs Golden.
Adjusted Secondary Discipline Procedure
In line with all teaching staff Professional Development Plan’s, and in response to continued disruptive behaviours in some secondary classrooms, I have implemented an adjusted discipline procedure for secondary. In summary, this procedure provides students displaying disruptive behaviours 4 opportunities to change their choices before being ‘airported’ from the classroom for the rest of the lesson with their work. This ‘airporting’ is to the teacher’s faculty leader.
The student who was airported is then placed on an alternate timetable the very next school day and escalated in our discipline system.
What is an Alternate Timetable?
An alternate timetable is when a student is provided independent learning by their teachers and then assigned to a secondary teacher for the day. The student attends senior classes with their assigned teacher and has separate break times to the rest of the school. The student completes their independent learning tasks plus a restorative practice activity such as an apology letter to their teacher or class.
The use of an alternate timetable allows the student to reflect on their choices, commit to change and allow their class to have respite from their disruptive choices for a day. It is then hoped that the student returns to class the following day and continues to demonstrate commitment to their positively changed choices.
The adjusted discipline procedure will be evaluated at the end of Term 2, 2024. If it is having the desired impact, it will become part of the secondary Discipline procedures at Boorowa Central School
Yass Show Success
The newly formed Boorowa Central Show team has experienced more success, this time at the Yass show. Our steer ‘Cloudy’ was first in class and Champion steer. ‘Astro’ was second in class and Reserve Champion steer. Wynston was fourth in class.
All students have been working hard on improving their parading skills over the last few weeks and that effort paid off with many ribbons won, including Reserve Champion Novice Parader Mylee.
I am very excited to see how our Show Team program is developing this year and especially enjoy seeing how much the students are loving the opportunity. Thank you to Mr McDonald for his dedication to this program.
Rotary support
The Rotary club of Boorowa has agreed to support the school to the amount of almost $6000. The funds will be used in the Library for an audiobook subscription, for the purchase of items for the Show Team and for all staff to access Nearpod for the next 12 months.
Thank you again to the Rotary Club of Boorowa for their ongoing support of the students of Boorowa Central School and the Boorowa community.
Goldies v Rovers Golf fundraiser
Thank you to the many people who participated in this event last weekend. Collectively they raised $2410 for the annual Boorowa Touch Football / Netball carnival which will in turn, benefit all of the students who attend St Joseph's Primary School and Boorowa Central School.
Thank you to the Boorowa Rugby Club, Boorowa Rovers RLFC, sponsors and the Boorowa Recreation Club for hosting and supporting the event.
Hopefully my 3-man Ambrose team may be a little more competitive next year.
