As we near the Easter holidays and finalise our planning for the summer term, here are some of the highlights from this term.

The Girls basketball team continued their winning streak with victory in the ISSAP U14 Girls competition held at ISP in February. They defeated Riverside and ISP in games that were closer in scoreline than actually on balance of play and it was good to see some new students in Year 1 and 2 get the chance to represent the school and have some success. The squad was: Lian Al Taji, Denisa Neuwirtherová, Laura Flook, Daria Kovalova, Ella Krajčovičová, Sophie Stewart, Tereza Chvátalová. 

Also this term we ran an Inter House Badminton & Table Tennis tournament at Elektra for all year groups which was very well attended. The final placings were:

S blížícími se velikonočními prázdninami dokončujeme naše plánování na letní trimestr a rekapitulujeme nejdůležitější body tohoto trimestru.

Dívčí basketbalový tým pokračoval ve své vítězné sérii vítězstvím v soutěži ISSAP U14 Girls, která se v únoru konala v ISP. Děvčata porazila školy Riverside a ISP v zápasech, v nichž bylo skóre blíž než úroveň hry a bylo dobré vidět, že některé nové studentky z 1. a 2. ročníku dostaly šanci reprezentovat školu a zažít úspěch. Sestava byla následující: Lian Al Taji, Denisa Neuwirtherová, Laura Flook, Daria Kovalova, Ella Krajčovičová, Sophie Stewart a Tereza Chvátalová.

V Elektře jsme uspořádali turnaj mezi kolejemi v badmintonu a stolním tenisu pro všechny ročníky. Účast byla hojná a konečné umístění bylo následující:

On Friday before the Easter break we hosted the final interhouse competition of the term with the Basketball competition being held at Sparta. It was a great event with over 100 students playing as well as the ECP Allstars staff team taking on some challenges to score bonus points for their house. The Sports Captains have done a great job to get as many players signed up as they have, which contributed to a great atmosphere and was a pleasant way to finish the term.  

V pátek před prázdninami jsme uspořádali závěrečnou soutěž mezi kolejemi v tomto trimestru - basketbalový turnaj na Spartě. Byla to skvělá událost, do níž se zapojilo více než 100 studentů a tým zaměstnanců ECP Allstars hrál o bonusové body pro svoji kolej. Sportovní kapitáni odvedli skvělou práci a zajistili, že se přihlásil dostatek hráčů, což přispělo ke skvělé atmosféře a příjemnému závěru jarního trimestru.

Two weeks ago we took over 30 students to Old Town Hall in Prague for the International Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze and Silver Award ceremony. The students were given a certificate to recognise their achievements and most of them are still actively involved in D of E, working towards the higher level of Award which they will either complete this year or next.   

Před dvěma týdny jsme vzali více než 30 studentů na Staroměstskou radnici v Praze, kde došlo k předávání bronzových a stříbrných ocenění v rámci mezinárodního programu vévody z Edinburghu (DofE). Studenti obdrželi certifikát jako uznání svých úspěchů a většina z nich se stále aktivně zapojuje do programu DofE a pracuje na získání další, vyšší úrovně, kterou dokončí letos nebo příští rok.

It was an honour to attend the DofE ceremony once again. Hosted traditionally in the Old Town Hall, the ceremony was a truly mesmerising and inspiring experience. ECP students and members of other schools who completed the DofE expeditions were greeted by a motivating speech. The speech portrayed us as the most valuable resource humanity has for the future. It was very enriching to see ourselves from a different perspective and it certainly motivated us to try and achieve more goals in our lives. After that, each of us was called to the stage to receive the award, including a badge. The ceremony was also interspersed by stunning performances of music and drama. One of the student speakers also shared a story about the challenging situation on their DofE adventure. When they were on the hike at really high altitude, one of the team members had a bad allergic reaction and the team was forced to call the mountain rescue. Having heard these difficulties that were experienced during the expedition and the brisk reaction of the members, we immediately felt sympathy, perhaps because we also faced our difficulties during our journeys, and they certainly form an inseparable part of the DofE paths and help us improve our decision-making skills, courage, and operating under pressure. Overall, it was definitely a pleasant experience to attend this ceremony, and it marks a significant milestone in our journey throughout the DofE programme.

Bylo mi ctí znovu se zúčastnit ceremoniálu při předávání ocenění v programu DofE. Akce se tradičně konala na Staroměstské radnici a přinesla nám skutečně fascinujícím a inspirativní zážitek. Studenti ECP a dalších škol, kteří absolvovali expedice DofE, byli přivítáni motivační řečí. Projev nás vykreslil jako nejcennější zdroj, který lidstvo pro budoucnost má. Bylo velmi obohacující vidět sami sebe z jiné perspektivy a určitě nás to motivovalo k tomu, abychom se snažili dosáhnout v našich životech dalších cílů. Poté byl každý z nás vyzván, aby si přišel převzít ocenění, včetně odznaku. Ceremoniál byl také proložen ohromujícími hudebními nebo dramatickými výkony. 

Jedna z přednášejících studentů se také podělila o příběh o náročné situaci při svém DofE dobrodružství. Když byli na túře v opravdu vysoké nadmořské výšce, jeden z členů týmu měl těžkou alergickou reakci a tým byl nucen zavolat horskou záchrannou službu. Když jsme slyšeli tyto potíže, které se během expedice vyskytly, a pohotové reakce členů, okamžitě jsme pocítili sympatie, možná proto, že jsme se i my při našich cestách potýkali s obtížemi, které určitě tvoří nedílnou součást expedic DofE a pomáhají nám zlepšovat naše rozhodovací schopnosti, odvahu a jednání pod tlakem. Celkově byla účast na tomto ceremoniálu příjemnou zkušeností, která představuje významný milník na naší cestě celým programem DofE.

After Easter we plan to get outside more for our PE lessons and we will be doing some track and field athletics, football, softball, ultimate frisbee as well as some other alternative sports in preparation for our two-day Olympics festival which will take place in June. More details to follow soon! We wish everyone a good Easter break.

Po Velikonocích plánujeme chodit v rámci tělesné výchovy více ven a budeme se věnovat atletice, fotbalu, softballu, ultimate frisbee a dalším alternativním sportům v rámci přípravy na náš dvoudenní olympijský festival, který se bude konat v červnu. Další podrobnosti budou brzy následovat! Přejeme všem krásné velikonoční svátky.
