Cultural Olympiad/Kulturní olympiáda 

This event was ably led by a creative array of Culture Captains, whose huge efforts both behind the scenes, and leading from the front on the day, meant the entire event was an energetic spectacle of over 100 performers, and 150 visual arts submissions. Once again, our home for the afternoon was Divadlo na Fidlovačce, which hosted the whole school for the afternoon’s entertainment. Congratulations to all who took part, and please read below from some insights from the winning teams.

Tato akce byla zdatně vedena kreativní skupinou kulturních kapitánů, jejichž obrovské úsilí jak v zákulisí, tak v čele zajistilo, že celá show přinesla energickou podívanou s více než 100 účinkujícími a 150 výtvarnými díly. Kulturní odpoledne opět proběhlo v  Divadle na Fidlovačce, které hostilo celou školu. Gratulujeme všem, kteří se zúčastnili, a níže si prosím přečtěte několik postřehů od vítězných týmů.

Winning House (Terra) 

The job was much harder than we anticipated in terms of finding a space to rehearse and organising/motivating our team. Despite those obstacles, the feeling of winning in the end was so incredibly rewarding because all  our hard effort paid off. We could not be more grateful for this experience as it not only allowed us to get to know people from different year groups, but it has also taught us real responsibility. 

Náš úkol byl mnohem těžší, než jsme předpokládali, co se týče hledání prostor pro zkoušení a organizaci/motivaci našeho týmu. Navzdory těmto překážkám byl pocit z vítězství na konci neuvěřitelně obohacující, protože veškerá naše snaha se vyplatila. Za tuto zkušenost nemůžeme být vděčnější, protože nám nejen umožnila poznat lidi z různých ročníků, ale také nás naučila skutečné zodpovědnosti.

Music 1st place - Ventus 

For the music category we decided to really lean into the Earth theme by choosing to play the songs: I Feel The Earth, Mr. Blue Sky, and What A Wonderful World. Between these songs we thought of transitions so that they would flow into each other smoothly and seamlessly, which I think contributed to our whole performance and made it more interesting. I believe that everyone on the Ventus music team took time to learn their parts and come to rehearsals, which in the end helped us win in the category.

V hudební kategorii jsme se rozhodli skutečně opřít o téma Země tím, že jsme zvolili skladby: I Feel The Earth, Mr. Blue Sky a What A Wonderful World. Mezi těmito skladbami jsme vymýšleli přechody, aby do sebe plynule přecházely, což myslím přispělo k celému našemu vystoupení a udělalo vystoupení zajímavějším. Věřím, že si všichni v týmu Ventus našli čas, aby se naučili svoji část a chodili na zkoušky, což nám nakonec pomohlo k vítězství v této kategorii.

Drama 1st place - Terra 

The Terra actors embodied two post-apocalyptic characters Clov and Hamm from one of the most famous absurdist plays, The Endgame, by Samuel Becket. The originally two-man show was divided into 4 pairs of Hamm and Clov. The post-apocalyptic loneliness of the characters should have made the audience uneasy about the sad reality that Earth may end like this. Each actor performed their part so well that they sent chills down the audience's spines and with that they showed their drama talents.

Herci z koleje Terra ztělesnili dvě postapokalyptické postavy Clova a Hamma z jedné z nejslavnějších absurdních her, The Endgame, od Samuela Becketa. Původně dvoučlenná show byla rozdělena do 4 párů Hammů a Clovů. Postapokalyptická osamělost postav měla diváky zneklidnit smutnou realitou, že Země může skončit takhle. Každý herec se svého partu zhostil tak dobře, že z toho divákům běhal mráz po zádech, čímž prokázali své činoherní nadání.

Dance 1st place - Aqua 

The Aqua dance performance embodied the theme of Earth through a dynamic interplay of elemental unity and diversity. The dance revolved around band names, such as “Earth, Wind & Fire” or “Aqua.” We were particularly pleased by the number of participants involved - ranging from Y1 all the way to Y6. Additionally, the surprise appearances of Ms. Fuchsová and Mr. Foster elevated the dance to the top tier, making the audience burst out in  laughter. Getting first place was the most rewarding feeling and we cannot wait for next year!

Taneční představení koleje Aqua ztělesnilo téma Země prostřednictvím dynamické souhry elementární jednoty a rozmanitosti. Tanec se točil kolem jmen kapel, jako je „Earth, Wind & Fire“ nebo „Aqua“. Obzvláště nás potěšilo množství zapojených účastníků – od 1. až 6. ročníku. Překvapivé vystoupení paní Fuchsové a pana Fostera navíc povýšilo tanec na nejvyšší příčku, takže publikum pukalo smíchy. Získat první místo byl ten nejlepší pocit a už se nemůžeme dočkat příštího roku!

Film 1st place - Terra 

For this year’s Terra film we drew inspiration from old film noir movies and wanted to connect it to the theme of Earth by solving the mystery of “Who Killed the Earth?” The writing, filming and editing took a lot of time, not unlike all the other categories, but it was well worth the effort. The cast was stellar and incredibly cooperative and we’re very happy with how it turned out. 

Pro letošní film koleje Terra jsme čerpali inspiraci ze starých filmů noir a chtěli jsme to propojit s tématem Země vyřešením záhady „Kdo zabil Zemi?“ Scénář, natáčení a střihání zabralo spoustu času, podobně jako u ostatních kategorií, ale stálo to za námahu. Herecké obsazení bylo hvězdné a neuvěřitelně kooperativní a jsme velmi spokojeni s tím, jak se to vydařilo.

Artist of the Year - Lubomír Brandejs

My art reflects the distinction between the human and natural world, which we can help; we must keep in mind that even if the world seems only to be one sided, it is just a mere illusion of the subject. I used the idea of the moon’s eclipse as a head for the worker and owner, and the moon as the owner's monocle. His monocle makes a slow transition into tree branches which are supported by a human arm which symbolises a helping hand.

Moje dílo odráží rozdíl mezi lidským a přírodním světem, kterému můžeme pomoci. Musíme mít na paměti, že i když se svět zdá být pouze jednostranný, je to jen pouhá iluze subjektu. Použil jsem myšlenku zatmění měsíce jako hlavy dělníka a vlastníka a měsíc jako vlastníkův monokl, který pomalu přechází do větví stromů, jež jsou podepřeny lidskou paží, která symbolizuje pomocnou ruku.

The picture is taken at the foot of the Mua cave in Ning Binh in Vietnam. It was a beautiful sunset above the lotus field that would undoubtedly catch the eye of anyone passing by.

Snímek je pořízen na úpatí jeskyně Mua v Ning Binh ve Vietnamu. Byl to nádherný západ slunce nad lotosovým polem, který nepochybně upoutal pozornost každého kolemjdoucího.
