Music Notes

A successful Autumn Concert took place last Friday early evening by utilising the Orchestral Room’s large sliding doors to transform our usual rehearsal space into a casual performance space. Fortunately, the weather was kind, given that the audience enjoyed the delightful music whilst sitting on the grassy hill! We had greater than 250 performers involved across orchestras, bands and choirs, and double these numbers in the audience (albeit not at the same time!). This proved to be a popular event with the students and audience alike, and a perfect introduction to HT performances for the students who were performing for their first time. Our next concerts will be more formal events at the end of Term 2 and Term 3 respectively.

Next term will see the Music Centre host many House Performing Arts Carnival rehearsals (in addition to our many regular ensembles). The students will be preparing music from their chosen theatrical musicals in house orchestras and choirs. Much preparation by the House leaders has already taken place, and we are all looking forward to the performances on Friday 24 May.

Next term will see the introduction of the Premier Concert Band aimed at catering for those students in Year 4 through to Year 7 who have started music lessons on Brass, Woodwind or Percussion instruments but are yet to delve into the fun of playing in an ensemble. Rehearsals will be held in Period 6s (3:20pm – 4:10pm) on Mondays commencing Monday 29 April. Students who are learning through the Huntingtower Music Centre and not already playing in an ensemble will be encouraged / expected to attend, and students who learn outside of the school are also welcome and encouraged to join. This group will provide the pathway to Intermezzo concert Band, and ultimately the Senior Concert Band.
