Book Week 2025: Booking an Adventure!
We’re still buzzing from Booking an Adventure! Visit the Library to see some of the fabulous student creations from our Book Week stage set.
Book Week was all about celebrating the journeys we take through books and the diverse characters we meet along the way. Students loved dressing up, and we thank families for their support to bring the students' reading dreams to life. Our teaching teams joined the fun too — like the adorable Prep Penguins, Year 5 transforming into characters from The Callers (their Term 2 novel study), and the Leadership and office team bringing Alice in Wonderland to life!
Throughout the week, students enjoyed Books in the Breeze at playtime and also took part in Buddy Reading sessions across school phases. Many classes also explored the CBCA shortlisted books through creative activities. Prep had fun with Spiro, Years 1–2 travelled Australia with We Live in a Bus, Years 3–4 tackled the How to Move a Zoo challenge, and Years 5–6 explored genre through drama. Another highlight was the Treasure Hunt incursion, a Book Week themed musical adventure bursting with laughter, energy, and stories!
Thank you!
A Book Week celebration of this scale takes months of planning and a huge team effort. We’re so grateful to our Book Week Committee of Josie Donaldson, Sheree Hoac, Nick Trethan, Sharyn Pinkerton, Angie Kelly, Brett Perrier, Billie Barker, Katie Patterson, Amanda Hayes, Pearl Wijesooriya, Alison Harris, James Tait, Julie Heyden and Tim Shepard for turning the vision into a joyful celebration of reading. Our Student Council and Library Monitors were outstanding ambassadors, helping build a community of readers who share a true love of stories.
We'd also like to thank Tammy Gilmore at Indooroopilly State High School for allowing us to borrow many stage props from their recent musical. How fabulous was the pool noodle coral!
Thank you to everyone who made Book Week 2025 such a special celebration at Ironside. What an adventure it was!
House Reading Cup
Congratulations to Sturt House for taking out the 2025 House Reading Cup. It was close to the last moment with only 5 points separating Sturt and the runner up house, Cook!
Book of the Year - Ironside's Winners
As part of our Term 3 Library program, many students read and/or explored the CBCA Book of the Year shortlisted books. They cast their votes and almost every year, their top pick doesn’t match the judges’ choice. Why the difference? Our students often favour fast-paced stories, humour, or strong emotional connections with relatable characters. CBCA judges, on the other hand, assess literary merit, structure, and thematic depth. Both choices matter.
This year, Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students overwhelmingly voted for Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the Tooth Fairy (And Some Things You Didn’t).
Year 3 and 5 students were captivated with the characters and storyline in Tigg and the Bandicoot Bushranger.
