Year 6 PYP Exhibition 2025
In the students’ final year of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) at Murrumbeena Primary School, students participate in an exhibition. Through this process, they implement the essential elements of the PYP and celebrate by sharing their learning from their inquiry with the whole school community. We will be launching the beginning of ‘exhibition’ with the Year 6 students this week.
In the PYP exhibition (PYPX), students demonstrate their understanding of an issue or opportunity they have chosen to explore. They undertake their investigation both individually and with their peers, together with the guidance of mentors. Through the exhibition, students demonstrate their ability to take responsibility for their learning and their capacity to take action as they actively engage in planning, presenting and assessing learning. The exhibition is a powerful demonstration of student agency, as well as the agency of the community that has nurtured them through their years in the PYP. The learning community participates in the exhibition, supporting and celebrating the development of internationally-minded students who make a positive difference in their lives and the lives of others.’
Our exhibition mission statement:
We believe that PYPX empowers students to engage in a meaningful, collaborative inquiry process that explores different perspectives and provokes authentic action that has an impact on the student.
The process will focus on:
- inspiring thinking about phenomena or issues occurring in our world through a range of provocations
- student-directed inquiry into an idea of interest
- Guided discussions about the inquiries challenge students to reflect on how their thinking is changing/developing.
At the community exhibition of the students' learning, you can expect to experience:
- Students sharing their learning journey and what they’ve learned about themselves as learners during the exhibition process, including experiences, successes, failures, discoveries and life lessons.
- A provocation created by each student invites the school community to engage in a conversation about student perspectives, passions, learning, experiences, and stories, with time to respond and ask questions.
All community members are invited to attend the Year 6 PYP Exhibition on Thursday, November 20th from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m.
