Message from the Assistant Principals

Term 4

As we begin Term 4, we hope everyone has returned feeling refreshed and ready to make the most of our final term for 2025. It was wonderful to see so many students and families at our STEAM Show last night. The school was buzzing with excitement, and the atmosphere was vibrant and colourful as our students proudly showcased their learning.

There was an impressive display of creativity and innovation through projects in STEM and The Arts, and we were also treated to a number of outstanding student performances throughout the session. The talent, effort and confidence shown by our students were truly inspiring, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of them.

A very big thank you and well done to Ms Carlin, Mrs Goodwin, Ms Liyanage and Miss Howell for their leadership in organising such a successful event. Thank you also to all staff who supported the evening and to our families for your ongoing encouragement and involvement. It was a wonderful celebration of learning, creativity and community.

Formation of 2026 Class Groups

Planning for the 2026 school year is now underway, with teachers and leaders engaging in the detailed process of forming new class groups. At Grayling, we allocate a large amount of time to this process, ensuring that every decision made supports the academic, social, and emotional development of all students.

Since the beginning of term 4, teachers have been preparing comprehensive handover notes to assist with the transition and continuity of learning. When forming classes, a range of factors are carefully balanced, including academic needs and achievements, behavioural considerations and finally, social connectedness, which all contribute to a supportive and orderly learning environment

While the school endeavours to ensure that each child is placed with at least one of their nominated friends, class placements are inherently complex. The overarching priority is to establish balanced classes where the blend of student needs, supports, and personalities fosters optimal learning conditions for all.

It is important to note that students may not always be placed with their full friendship group. These moments present valuable opportunities for children to build resilience, develop adaptability, and broaden their social networks, skills that are essential attributes for future learning and wellbeing.

We appreciate the continued trust and understanding of our community as we undertake this process. Every placement decision is made with care and professionalism, with the collective aim of ensuring that each student at Grayling Primary School is positioned to thrive in the year ahead.

Graylings 5-Year School Review

This term, our school will take part in its five-year School Review, a process undertaken by all Victorian government schools through the Department of Education. The School Review helps us reflect on our achievements, celebrate our progress, and plan for continued improvement.

Over the past five years, we have been working towards the goals outlined in our School Strategic Plan (SSP). The review allows us to evaluate how well we have met those goals and identify the next steps in our improvement journey. The review focuses on five key areas:

  • Leadership
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Assessment
  • Engagement and Support
  • Resources

Next week, a School Review Panel will visit our school as part of the process. The panel will include members of our principal class team, a Department of Education reviewer, and two external challenge partners, who are experienced school principals bringing valuable insights and outside perspectives. Throughout the review, the panel will meet with staff, students, and school council representatives, and explore evidence of our school’s performance.

This 3 day process plays an important role in strengthening school improvement and ensuring the best possible outcomes for every student. The findings from the review will inform the development of our next School Strategic Plan, which will set our direction and priorities for the next five years.

We look forward to sharing key findings and future directions with our school community once the review is complete. Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue working together to make our school a place where every student can learn, grow, and succeed.

Warm regards,

Lach Clydesdale and Meagan Lindberg
