FOUNDATION NEWS
Welcome back to Term 4! We hope you all had a wonderful break. It was lovely to see everyone’s smiling faces as we returned to school last week, refreshed and ready for the final term of 2025. This term will be another very busy one, so please continue to read the newsletter, check emails, view the calendar and read notices on Nforma.
As mathematicians, we tuned in to the concept of Multiplication this week. As thinkers, we are learning to represent and solve simple multiplication stories by making equal groups. We have been focusing on identifying how many groups there are, how many there are in each group and how many there are altogether. We are making lots of connections to addition, and some of us are even able to record a repeated addition number sentence!
As people of faith, we have been finding out about Mary, the mother of Jesus. We have been beginning prayer each day with the Hail Mary, a Catholic prayer dedicated to honouring her. As researchers, we viewed images of Mary, watched videos and listened to stories, to find out more about her. We discovered that she was chosen by God because she was a faithful, kind and humble person. We also learnt that in images, Mary is often seen wearing blue and has a halo or a ring of light around her head, to symbolise her importance as the Mother of Jesus and the Queen of Heaven. As communicators, we made our thinking visible about Mary by drawing and writing about her. This week, we will learn more about her, and the Holy Rosary.
This week, we will be learning about…
- Numeracy: Multiplication- continuing to make equal groups
- Reading: Characters, settings, problems and solutions within Narrative Texts
- InitiaLit: Using learnt sounds and digraphs to build, read and spell words and sentences, reading decodable story books (Learnt sounds: m, s, t, a, p, i, f, r, c, o, d, h, e, n, g, l, k, u, b, j, w, ck, ll, ff, ss, sh, qu, ee, z, zz, ch)
- Writing: Narrative Writing, writing on the dotted thirds
- Inquiry: Tuning in to our Inquiry into places and design
- Religion: Mary
The Resilience Project: Empathy

YEAR 1/2 NEWS
Welcome to Term 4!
We’ve had a fantastic start to the term and loved hearing all about the exciting experiences students enjoyed during the break. This term promises to be a busy and enriching one, full of meaningful learning opportunities.
As learners, we took part in a special video call with Kids Helpline focused on the topic of Friendship. During the session, we reflected on what it means to be a good friend and identified qualities like kindness, a good sense of humor, and being caring. Using these traits, we created our very own Friendship Soup – a fun and creative way to explore positive social behaviors.
We also looked at what healthy friendships can look like in action, such as including others, using kind words, and showing care. The importance of sharing our feelings with friends was a key message, helping students build empathy and emotional awareness in their relationships.
As part of our Literacy learning, we’ve started diving into Persuasive Texts in both our reading and writing lessons. We have been learning about the purpose of persuasive writing and how to identify the difference between facts and opinions. As thinkers, we have begun forming and expressing our own opinions on a range of engaging topics, an exciting step in developing our critical thinking and communication skills.
In addition, we've started to participate in reading groups, focusing on reading skills both independently and in small, teacher-led focus groups. These sessions provide valuable opportunities to strengthen comprehension, fluency, and confidence as readers.
This week, we will be learning about…
- Numeracy: Time
- Reading: Persuasive Text Structure
- Writing: Persuasive Text - For & Against Arguments
- Spelling: The digraph /oy/ making the sound “oy” as in toy.
- Inquiry: Royal Botanic Gardens Excursion
- Religion: Month of Mary
Upcoming dates:
- Botanic Gardens Excursion - Tuesday 14th October
- Year 1/2 Maths Games Day - Thursday 23rd October
- School Athletics Day - Friday 31st October

YEAR 3/4 NEWS
Welcome back to Term 4! We hope you all had a lovely break.
As learners of the Italian language, we engaged in a whole school incursion on Wednesday. We performed, sung and danced our way through the session to help Nonna Giocoma find the famous secret ingredient to making Bolognese sauce. Grazie Signora Rosa!
As athletes, the selected Year 4 students participated in the Manchester City Soccer Shield event on Thursday the 9th of October. A big congratulations to all students who attended the event and showed our school values and sportsmanship towards other students from our neighbouring schools.
School Uniform Reminders
A friendly reminder that in Term 4 all students must wear their summer uniform including their school hat. Students with no hat will not be allowed to play.
Home Learning Expectations
Please continue to encourage your child to engage in their home learning weekly, especially their SMART spelling sheet. Your child needs to write every spelling word listed on the sheet each night to consolidate the spelling focus of the week. Every Friday a spelling test is conducted in the classroom, so practice at home is vital.
A reminder that school diaries and SMART spelling sheets are handed to your child’s classroom teacher EVERY FRIDAY. The home learning tasks have the return date listed on the top of the sheet.
This week, we will be learning about…
- Numeracy: Addition and Subtraction (Year 3) & Fractions (Year 4)
- Literacy: Poetry
- Spelling: The graph /o/ making the sound “u” as in glove.
- Inquiry: Design and how we can make a difference in our world.
- Religion: The month of Mary (October)
Well done to Grade 3/4SH for their assembly on Friday and to Tess and Damian who lead the school in a GEM chat last Monday, well done!

YEAR 5/6 NEWS
Welcome back!
We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break. It has been wonderful to reconnect and see everyone return with such positive energy and readiness for Term 4. It's been a fantastic start to the term, and we’ve jumped straight into some exciting learning activities.
Maths Games Day: This Thursday, 16th October, we will be having our annual Maths Games day. We would love to see as many parents as possible join us on the day, let us know if you can make it!
This term is full of lots of fun and exciting things, and also the final term of primary school for our year 6s! In Week 3, our Year 6 students have an excursion to Urbn Surf. And week 4 is our school athletics day at Coburg Athletics Track. A very action-packed and exciting start to our term.
In Numeracy, we were learning about Angles. We first looked at the different types of angles (such as acute, obtuse, reflex etc.) and there properties and angle sizes. We then moved on to measuring angles with a protractor, building our confidence in measuring angles accurately.
In literacy, we have started a new class novel this term. The novel we will be reading is called Nevermore: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend. The plot follows the titular character Morrigan Crow, who is cursed to die because she was born on an unlucky day. Alongside the book they will be completing a book study, with questions, summaries and tasks designed to develop their comprehension and deepen their understanding of the book. Students will have set chapters to engage in each week, some of which they will be required to read at home as part of their home learning.
We also started our next inquiry unit, How do people and communities around the world respond to and minimise the impacts of natural disasters? As part of this unit, we will investigate natural disasters and how they affect people and environments differently.
A reminder it is term 4, students need to be wearing hats!
