Headstart and welcome to new families
I’m very proud of the way Junior School students have stepped up this week, embracing the challenges and opportunities presented by the Headstart program. This has involved meeting and working with new peers and teachers, stepping out of their comfort zone as they have started to forge new friendships, and getting used to the expectations of their new year level.
Induction to the 2024 Year Level
Communities has been supported by our Headstart Assemblies, where students were introduced to their new Year Level Leader and considered their new Year Level Statement. The Statements act as a kind of constitution, framing the aspiration and culture of students within their new year level communities. This induction process has continued in Education for Life classes, with students exploring the Auburn Learner Quality associated with their new year level, be that Creativity, Collaboration, Citizenship, Communication, Critical Thinking and Character.
Special mention to our 120 Year 9 students who have transitioned into the Senior School and commenced their Year 10 program, many of whom have also started their Unit 1 VCE acceleration subject. This is a big step up and it’s been great to see how well they have all settled in.
We have welcomed a number of new students across all year levels to the AHS community during Headstart and they were invited to a welcome morning tea with the Principal team this week. We are delighted to see the aspiration and enthusiasm of these newest members of our community.
Array and Summer Soiree
Thank you to our very talented musicians and artists for their contribution to this year’s annual visual art and design exhibition, Array, and Instrumental Music Summer Soiree. Hundreds of visitors attended the exhibition over the three days, including parents, extended family, friends, staff, Auburn South Primary School students and future AHS families. Congratulations to Ms McCrum and the Arts team, as well as to Mr Williams and the IM team on a fantastic week! It really was a wonderful celebration of student creativity and aspiration. Thanks also to AHS parent, Suzie P, for organising drinks and nibbles on the last night, which added to the convivial community atmosphere.
Ready, Set, Go
Tonight we will once again welcome our 2024 Year 7 families as we host the second of our transition events, Ready, Set, Go. This information session will largely be facilitated by current AHS students as they answer frequently asked questions from new families about camp, extra-curricular and leadership opportunities and how to best prepare for the big move to secondary school. The session will be followed by a sausage sizzle hosted by current Year 7 parent Leanne B, giving new families an opportunity to meet and mingle. We are very grateful to Leanne and our very active parent community for the contributions they make to our school!
France Study Tour
We have 17 very excited students and 3 very excited staff confirmed to attend our France Study Tour in April next year. It’s a fabulous immersive itinerary, where students will be able to practice their language skills whilst learning more about French art, history, food and culture. We have three places still available. Please be in touch with me as soon as possible if you would like your child to be considered. Kristie.satilmis@education.vic.gov.au There are no language pre-requisites, only enthusiasm and excellent learning behaviours! The tour is open to AHS students in Year 8-12 in 2024.
