2024 Book Packs - Handwriting and Spelling Resources

If you have already received your child's 2024 book pack, you may have noticed some published workbooks alongside our usual student exercise books. In 2024, all students in Foundation to Year 2 will utilise the Targeting Handwriting resources to embed a consistent, effective and sequential approach to teaching important handwriting skills. Students developing a fluent and efficient handwriting style is not only an important curriculum outcome but is also beneficial in developing other key literacy areas.

Likewise, all students in Years 2 - 6 will use a Sound Waves student workbook to support the implementation of the Sound Waves program as our consistent approach to spelling. Sound Waves is a program developed by Australian teachers for use in Australian classrooms and informed on the best practices for teaching spelling. It has also been selected as it builds upon the skills taught in the Little Learners Love Literacy programs which is currently taught in our Foundation in Year 1 classrooms.

We look forward to using these two approaches in 2024 as part of our school-wide goal to maintain and further enhance the growth in Literacy demonstrated throughout this year.

Holiday Works

As we have been gearing up to the end of 2023, we have organised a range of works to take place throughout the holiday period.

These include:

  • Upgrading our current CCTV system to enable our school to be a safe and secure place
  • Building works as part of our current Minor Capital Works Grant. This will include installing new roof-sheets, box gutters, skylights and flashings throughout the Year 2 building.
  • Blinds being installed in rooms 17,18,19, 20 and the Indonesian Room
  • Replacing the carpet in the Library
  • Gutter and Roof cleaning
  • Synthetic turf maintenance and repairs
  • New classroom furniture being installed in our 2024 Year 5 classrooms
  • Steam cleaning of carpets in all room in the Foundation Building, Wentworth building and Rooms 27 and 28
  • Scheduled term break clean with deep cleaning in all toilet and bathroom areas
  • Exterior window cleaning

We hope that these works will enable our school to look fantastic and be properly maintained for the beginning of the 2024 school year.

Vandalism - Please be vigilant

Unfortunately, as the weather improves and the days get longer we also seem to notice an increase of vandalism on school grounds. Please feel welcome to use our school grounds during the upcoming break as a busy environment is often a great deterrent for antisocial behaviour. Please contact the police directly if you do witness any vandalism or antisocial behaviour on our school grounds particularly if you notice anyone accessing our roof-space/shade sails or using motorised bikes/scooters.

Thank you

Lastly, I would like to thank all of our parent community for their support throughout 2023. I hope everyone is able to have an enjoyable, restful and enriching Christmas and a very safe New Year (particularly if you are heading away on a family holiday).
