Message from the

School Principal

Mrs Kaylene Carlin

Dear Families & Friends,

Staffing News

As we move at a rapid pace towards the end of the year, I would like to share with you today staffing announcements for 2024.

As a school community, we look forward to warmly welcoming Kristian Magill, Therese Kehoe, Heaven Zheng and Katrina Scolaro on staff as classroom teachers in 2024. Heaven has been teaching Year 4 this term and we are thrilled that she will be staying on next year.

Our new staff were able to join us a few weeks ago for our closure day for Sketching 2024. We look forward to introducing our new team members to the children on our Step Up Day, Monday 11th December.

Three staff will be leaving Sacred Heart at the end of the year - Emily Stevenson, Margaret Enright and Lyndal Acreman.

We congratulate Lyndal on her appointment to a leadership position in Learning Diversity at her new school. Sadly, this means that Tex will also leaving Sacred Heart. We will explore new options for a Wellbeing Dog early next year. Margaret has been at Sacred Heart for over ten years and has taught many children from many families in her time here. We wish Margaret all the very best in whatever the future holds for her beyond Sacred Heart. Hopefully we will still see Emily next year as she plans to do some emergency teaching before beginning travels.

Nicole has commenced her Parental Leave and we look forward to welcoming her new bubba in the new year. Nicole hopes to return to Sacred Heart in the future when the time is right. Carmen, one of our Learning Support Officers, will be going on Long Service Leave for 2024 with a view to retire at the end of 2024. We also thank Carmen for her many years of support for the children and friendship to the staff. We will miss her too!

As a staff, we will acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful contributions of Lyndal, Margaret, Emily and Carmen at the end of the year but I know you will join me in thanking each one of them for their commitment and love towards the Sacred Heart community in their time here.

Leadership Appointments

I am thrilled to announce two new appointments to leadership positions at Sacred Heart.

Kirstyn Morgan - Learning Diversity/Ways of Being Together Leader Year 3-6

Andrea Finlay - Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader

Andrea's position is a new role and more information will be provided soon about the role and the positive impact for children and families at Sacred Heart.

Both Andrea and Kirstyn are very excited about their new roles.  Congratulations, Andrea and Kirstyn!

Families not returning in 2024

If your child will not be returning to Sacred Heart in 2024, can you please inform the school in writing as soon as possible if you have not already done so. This will also assist us in establishing balanced class groupings and friendship requests for 2024. Emails can be sent to principal@shnewport.catholic.edu.au

Step Up Day

This year, the Step Up Day will be on Monday, 11th December. During this one hour session, the children will gather with their new class and get to know their new teacher and peers a little better, in readiness for the start of a new school year. We will let the children know their 2024 class on Friday, 8th December.

Year 3 Camp

This week, our Year 3 children experienced their very first overnight school camp. It's fair to say that there was a mixture of emotions from excitement to nervousness, wondering what new adventures lay ahead at Don Bosco Camp, Safety Beach! Judging by the photos below, we can see our campers had a great time, learned new skills and tried lots of new things. Well done to all on being brave and making the most of the opportunities.

A special thank you to staff who attended the camp - Christy, Bre, Anthony, Sue & Erin.

Sacred Heart Christmas Carols

Our children are busy preparing for a very special event on our school calendar, the Sacred Heart Christmas Carols! This year, the Christmas Carols will be held in the playground once again (weather permitting). Families are invited to bring a picnic rug, chair, nibbles, picnic etc and join in the festive spirit.

Date: Thursday, 7th December

Time: Gates will open at 5pm for a 5.30pm start.

Please note, children will be required to sit with their classes in front of the stage, in readiness to go on stage for their carols.

We hope to see as many families as possible.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Kaylene
