Cricket

Year 7 Boys

With a “star-studded” line-up of Year 7 champs, the Year 7 Boys cricketers were within a thick edge of taking out the 2023  Southern Metro Region cricket finals.

Playing some of the top cricketers in the State, the team handled the games well, with some excellent batting, bowling, fielding and catching…competing against Dandenong Secondary College and McKinnon Secondary College.

Our Openers, Owen and Tyson forged strong stands in each game, taking on the “pace” bowling and the new ball. Next, our stroke players Ewan, Ollie, Flynn, Sam and Harvey worked towards building a quick total, and the batters to come – Heath, Joel, Cameron, Cooper, Kavya – always looking for the sneaky singles and making a quick-fire score.  Special mention to Ewan for his 50*, Owen B for his 49* and Tyson’s 32.

Bowling at the top end was tight, with our bowlers bowling good lines and lengths. Tyson, Ewan and Sam generated awesome pace, with Ollie, Flynn, Owen, Joel, Heath, Joshua and Harvey sharing the overs.  I was pleased to see Cameron, Cooper and Kavya throwing the ball and weaving some magic.

Fielding was always tight, with everyone on their toes and in the game.

Congratulations on your sportsmanship and efforts, Year 7s. Thanks, Mums and Dads.

Intermediate Girls...the journey

Round 1Chelt.Sec defeated The Mac. Robertson Girls' High School
Round 2 - District FinalChelt.Sec defeated Beaumaris Secondary College
Round 3 - Southern Metro FinalChelt.Sec defeated Frankston Secondary College
State Quarter FinalChelt.Sec defeated Wonthaggi Secondary College (Senior Campus)

State Semi-Finals - Chelt.Sec lost to Maribyrnong Secondary College in 35-degree heat and finally met our match - chasing 127, the heat pushed us beyond our limits and we made a very creditable 88 runs.

The team continued to be led by our wonderful captain Tilly L., who opened the batting (hit lots of 4s) and was the first change bowler. Hayley dominated most games with her skill and poise - not only as a bowler but also as a very accomplished batter (50 in a 20/20 game is superb). Grace continued to be a speed demon, Darcy maintained a wonderful line and length, Sarah, Molly and Emily all did their job to keep the pressure up when we bowled.

We bowled first in all games and chased totals as high as 128 and displayed great team composure. Our new players must also be given great credit. Mia N. took on the huge task of wicketkeeping with such vigour that she was dangerous! Atika learned how to field, underarm all returns to the stumps and ran many players out. Sarah developed a wonderful throw from the deep and also had an uncanny ability to hit the stumps from the outfield. Katarina nailed the skill of fielding – with a deep knee bend and hands facing down. Special thanks go to our coaches, Lachie O’M. and Rudi C. (who really must learn to smile for the camera) who umpired, scored, prepared all the skills, and warm-ups and shared their wealth of knowledge with the girls.

Look out Avenues - our cricket girls are on the march!!!!!!!

Baseball

Well done to our Year 8 Baseball team. After coming runners-up in the State Final as Year 7 students they once again headed to Kingston Heath to represent Chelt.Sec in a State Qualifying Final. Round 1 against Balwyn High School was close fought with the Chelt team going down 7-8. Round 2 against Belmont High was again a close game resulting in a 12-all draw.  A great effort by the whole team with positivity and support for one another. We look forward to the ongoing success of this team.

Sport Academies

Netball

Thank you to Head Coach Leah and her team of amazing coaches. Our Netball Academy players have enjoyed their season and just have the one game le. Each netballer developed both netball and personal skills throughout the year. You have been absolutely amazing and we could not be more proud of your efforts. We hope all the girls return for another season and we welcome our incoming Year 7 students.

Basketball

Our Basketball Academy had its first graded game in the Under 16 Boys 9 Saturday Summer Competition. Although they had defeated their opposition through the grading process, Jimmy's Raptors were too strong on this occasion. Go Chelt, get it next week.

Soccer skills

In Term 3 students had the opportunity to join in a series of soccer skills and development sessions. We had a good turnout however, the weather turned a few away. We would like to offer this to all students again in Term 4. Sessions are $10 per week for 1.5 - 2 hours, after school on a Thursday. We need a minimum of 13 students for this to go ahead. If you are interested, please email Ms Hargreaves.

Moorabbin Rams

When neighbours become good friends...The Moorabbin Rams Rugby Club hosted four sessions of Touch Rugby and all who attended had a great time. Mr Sanders is working to obtain some funding so that we can continue the program in 2024. Alternatively, we could look at running sessions for $10 per week if students are interested please email Ms Hargreaves.
