5-8 Community News

Dear Families/Caregivers,

What a whirlwind few weeks since our last report.

Learning continues...... There are heaps of learning outcomes to be finalised in the 5-8 Community and we will continue to strive for success and ensure that the students continue to complete their learning outcomes to the best of their ability as they push towards the end of the term: English, maths, science, humanities, PE, it's non stop!

Last week our Years 5 and 6 students took off to Ballarat. It was such a wonderful experience. Thank you to all students who attended, as they represented themselves and our College to a high standard, ensuring that they were demonstrating all areas of the SOLE matrix, even if some were up until midnight.  Bridie and Sam have provided a report about camp, which you can read below.

Thank you to Mr Busch, Miss Di Bella, Mrs Robinson, Mr Kirby, Miss Evans, Mrs Borrelli, Tracey, Zanthia and Zane for giving up their time to ensure that the kids were given such a life lasting experience.

This week we had some additional students attend our College as they start to prepare for life at St Augustine's in 2024. On Thursday, we had 12 students attend and participate in various activities led by Max S, Asha Rose M, Emily W, Sienna W, Milla Y, Olivia W, Zoe G, Kezia B, Cooper W and Paddy H. Thank you to Leanne Reed, Miss Di Bella and Mr Kirby for supporting these students who will continue to visit over the next few weeks to undertake further activities.

The Resilience Project learning continues to provide our students with opportunities to practice gratitude at home and at school. Over the next few weeks, students will examine the importance of showing and displaying empathy, compassion and sympathy, whilst unpacking the theme of Banter Vs Bullying.  It's really important that we continue to unpack what each of these terms mean, given the impact it can have on our friendships and relationships.

Next week, our Years 5 and 6 students are having a golf day/afternoon and a market day at the Parklands Golf Course, prepared by Year 7-9 Partnerships students - how lucky!  These students have been working incredibly hard to ensure this day can go ahead! Thank you to Mr Sutton, Mr Hill, Miss Johns and Peter Fawcett for assisting and supporting the idea.

We hope to see you at our end of term celebration assembly on 8th of December, commencing at 9.10am.

Lastly, for those families who have children leaving the F-4 Community and moving into the 5-8 Community for 2024, our information session will be hosted this coming Monday 27th November, at 8.30am. See you there.

Take care,

Years 5-6 Camp

By Bridie and Sam

On Monday 13th of November the 5/6s went to Ballarat for camp. We went for two nights and three days. When we finally got to Ballarat we went to Mars Stadium and some of us got to ring the half time siren. We got a tour of the coaches box and got to go on the oval. After Mars Stadium we checked into our caravan park, had dinner and got ready to go ten pin bowling. We got into our teams and played, it was very fun. Once we got back, we went on a night lake walk and then we walked back to the caravan park and got ready for bed.

On Day 2 we got ready and had breakfast. After breakfast we got on the bus to Sovereign Hill. When we arrived we were given instructions at the playground. After we were sent off, we roamed around buildings such as the Charlie Napier Hotel, The New York Bakery, the lolly shop and lots more. Next our TA was sent to the Red Hill Mine. On this tour we followed William throughout the mine. Afterwards we saw somebody make hard boiled lollies and we also got to try some. Lastly, we saw a man pour gold into a gold bar. When we got back to the cabins we ate spaghetti for dinner, then left to go for either an hour walk, the lake walk again or stay at our cabins.

In the morning we had breakfast and then left the caravan park to go to the War Memorial. When we got there we looked around for each other’s relatives. Once we looked around we then sat down on the grass and had recess and we played old school Kahoot. The Kahoot was about the War Memorial. Then we went on a walk to see the Paralympics Pillar. After this we walked back to the buses. On the bus we listened to music then we stopped for lunch at a lake. For lunch we had salad rolls before we hopped back on the bus. On the bus we watched the movie Turbo but we didn’t get to finish it because we had arrived back at Kyabram.
