Secondary Awards Ceremony

The first year of our Great Southern Grammar Secondary School has been a wonderfully vibrant year where we have enjoyed camps, events and carnivals with fantastic levels of attendance and participation.  We have been able to enjoy mixing across year levels and our new vertical Homerooms have been well established.

Our students learned to become masters of time management once again as we ask them to keep on top of their studies while they make films for media, play basketball for the school or attend Young Writers workshops.  What has impressed me more this year has been the way our students have supported each other. This has looked like students watching each other at sporting events, attending the Art exhibition, supporting each other with study, and supporting each other with friendship issues and reporting unkind behaviour.  I love the way you look after each other; never lose this, you wonderful people, it’s a great example of something AI will never be able to match! 

I would like to thank the students for their enthusiasm this year; for being here, for looking after each other and for supporting school events.  I would also like to thank all of the staff for their passion and commitment in and out of the classroom.  Finally, thank you to parents and families who send their amazing children to our school each day.  Working with your children is an absolute privilege.

I wish you all wonderful and safe summer break, and I look forward to working with you again next year.

Year Eleven Camp

Mary Witham (Year Eleven)

The Year Eleven students are a very tight and supporting year group, which ultimately lead to the enormous success of our last camp together. 

We are very thankful for everyone who put it together; Mrs Turnor, the Heads of House, and the lovely staff at Camp Kennedy. 

The camp included a one night stay, filled with swimming, boogie boarding, eating, soccer, walking, games, dances, teambuilding, and eating.  

The camp was pretty luxurious as it included food deliveries and mattresses, and the most difficult part was co-ordinating an elaborate dance within our house to perform at the end of the night.  

To wind down from that, the morning followed with a trek to Mutton Bird, where we met Gary who taught us about dreaming-the formations of the land. As well as meeting a yoga instructor to revive us from our walk.
